Just wondering what people are thinking regarding what our team might look next year. It seems pretty obvious a central defender or two will come in between Jan and the end of next Summer. I guess my thoughts our is that it's likely Coutinho may leave in the summer with Keita already coming in summer though hopefully not as a direct replacement. I think we could play Firminho where Coutinho is presently playing as the most attacking central midfielder, we'd then need to bring in a quality CF and quality Holding midfielder. With Can likely to leave on a free in the summer that would leave Wijnaldum, Henderson and Milner as other options..
The first 11 would line up something like:-
GK (Mignolet or replacement)
Clyne Matip VVD LB ( TBC)
DM
Keita Firminho
Salah Timo Werner Mane

You have zero hope of winning 'top' trophies in the short or medium term.
YOur club is not equipped to do so, and your owners have no desire to go the extra yard to get there

Thanks for the insight, Einstein.
Who'd have guessed that would be your opinion?

Klopp clearly rates him

I think that's the bottom line, with regard to Hendo.
And to be fair, I wouldn't mind seeing the gegenpress in action, with high-energy players like Hendo, Keita and Lallana applying it.
Could be awesome (could be sheite as well, but I'd quite like to see)

I don't get this Henderson has gone backwards thing. In position he has went backwards of course and I don't think that's his best position. He doesn't get to show his full talent there.
You aren't going to see him bursting forward like he used to or many defence splitting passes which he still has in his locker as evidenced in the Spurs game when he produced a world class pass to send Salah through. He has to be more disciplined and play the role he's given, which he does well. For me the defensive side of his game is lacking for that role but he can only play the role he's given.

It's what we've all been crying out for.
Can deeper and Henderson playing box-to-box.

I don’t think Henderson has the fitness to play box to box anymore.
That’s the main he doesn’t IMO.

He does a lot of running in his current role already.
I would love to hear Klopp's reasoning for playing Henderson in this deeper role and what he actually requires from someone who plays this role in his system.

He plays the same role for England as well remember.
IMO it must be fitness related because in his younger days his strength was always his ability to get in and around the box and back into position quickly.
Now he’s rarely given that freedom for club or conutry.

Like you said...all of Henderson's strengths lie higher up the pitch.
His one touch passing would be better used in the final third where moving the ball quickly will open up gaps...even if it is sideways. Whereas in the deeper role he just has this tendency of knocking sideways first time for no apparent reason. He's not even under pressure or anything.
Also his ability to chase back and/or press high up. He already does needless running in his current role so this fitness thing doesn't really sit well with me.
He also initiates the team's press from a deeper position but when it fails we're left with the defence being mutilated. Whereas higher up the pitch his pressing wont result in such a loss of shape for the team.
He can also get into good goal scoring positions even if his finishing lets him down some times.
I keep saying...box-to-box Henderson > deep lying playmaker Henderson.
Would love to hear Klopp's reasoning for choosing the latter.

I know it's going to disappoint a good few, but I personally think Hendo will still be in the side next season.
Alongside Keita.....high-pressing, high-intensity, and all that.

You may well be right Wessie and I’m no Hendo hater but he does need to up his game.
13/14 and 14/15 he was very good but he hasn’t kicked on from there and has gone backwards really. Got some great form back early last season but that went out of the window as the season went on and this season he’s just been ok.
It’s not been good enough from our captain. Klopp clearly rates him but if want to win the top trophies then he’s got to be better or be replaced as a regular starter.

I’m pretty sure the stats would show our box to box players do a lot more running than the sitter, at the very least more sprints if not total distance covered.
