In the report Zac says he will be forced to give up football, or drop to non-league.

He seems to ignore the option of continuing to learn to be a footballer in the Rams academy.

I don't think the £120k is excessive.

Rather like drugs companies, football clubs have to sink money into lots of different development projects (each youngster in each age group in the academy in this case). Most projects end in failure. The price charged for the successes need to recover the cost of trying to develop the failures, otherwise all academies and all drugs companies would be bankrupt fairly rapidly.

Think of it like this. How much do you think its cost all-in to run Derby's academy for the last 20 years? What return have we got? Just Will Hughes. Suppose Watford had been allowed to sign him for only what Derby specifically spent developing him...

Iwaslevel, maybe I am needed as clearly you are saying things out of assumptions and not facts.

If he wasn't worth it, the club wouldn't have forked out 7k and neither would they be wanting 120k for a player who they don't think would make it. I have not the faintest in whether he is any good or not or even if he can continue at the Rams academy.

Interesting to hear it from a different perspective.
Clearly a complex issue and every individual case should be treated on its merits.
I hope and trust our Academy has done this, on this occasion

One of my neighbours has a nine year old at Man City. They send a car/driver over to Liverpool every day to take him to the club "school" and bring him home again every evening. For this, his parents get £1,500 a month "expenses".

Small wonder so many of today's footballers have a great sense of entitlement.
