Always heartbreaking stuff, that's why I never watch it.

I have two pet charities I give to and raise money for.

Wooden Spoon is a rugby based charity for disabled and disadvantaged kids, and I like my rugby.

Birmingham Children's Hospital saved my boys life 7 years ago. Nuff said.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Walked past a homeless woman raising £16 for a hostel tonight. Recognised her from a newspaper interview and her story of abuse and propositions. I struggle not to just hand her £20 if that makes sense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
More than 40 years ago I refused to give a jakey money but offered to buy him a meal in a cafe in Paisley. He told me to effaff. I told him to effaff, I wasn't giving him money for drink.

No big thing in that story other than to be careful who you help and why.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no shortage of desperation in this world/country/town many are victim of circumstances. But I still feel guilty wasting money on consumerism junk. If I had helped her I'd have been satisfying my guilt not helping as a moral duty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But you might have just given her money for drink.

Go with her to the hostel, pay for a night for her to stay there........

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I never read on, I just assume that went to dark places.

No Mick, just to places that might help people in real need.

That's what I meant

We all have needs

Mick

Indeed we do, but some of us have the privilege of helping others less fortunate - if we choose to do so.

If you do, fantastic. If you don't, that's OK.

I know a guy that was on the streets for a couple of months once.

In fairness, although not he politest, the guy you may have wanted to buy food for might have already been fortunate enough to have eaten that night. A decent drink could be just what’s needed before trying to get a nights kip out on the street against a wall or curb,
I’d definitely want one thats for sure.

Although every situation is different I appreciate.

These telethons are just another way of getting the poorest people in the country to subsidise services which should already have been provided. Another way of getting the poorest to subsidise the richest.

By the by, I just finished watching the new Jim Carrey/And Kaufman documentary on Netflix. It's really fascinating stuff. I hated Jim Carrey back in the day, but look at him in a completely different way now.

what happened between you and Carrey?
