Not been one of these threads in a while.
Just purchased three this morning.. A Short History of Drunkness (self explanatory, The Man Without A Face (about Putin's rise and how he's dominated and changed Russia), and Fatherland (the Robert Harris novel about an alternate history if we'd lost WW2).
Just started on the Drunkness book and it's a very funny read, and interesting too. I wasn't aware of the theory that civilisation was a by-product of beer, and that the oldest building ever discovered was a temple of sorts for ancient tribes to meet up for a pยกss up.
But the book is enough to make me a believer.. the ancient Mesopotamians/Sumerians had a goddess of Beer (Ninkasi) who was one of their holiest deities. Amen!
Anyone else read or purchased any good reads lately?
