Week 18

Brighton v Hull

A tetchy affair with both teams in need of points, neither really going for it, Hulls best chance was through Mahrez but he was marshalled well throughout by Max, however going forward Mahrez and Forsberg were out of the game for good periods as were Yarmolenko and Mkhitaryan. Strikers when given a chance were a bit 'off' there game as both defences were sound throughout limiting the chances at either end

Brighton 0 - 0 Hull City
MOTM - Max

Newcastle v Liverpool

Two contrasting style made for a very entertaining game with some outstanding forward lines on display, it started quickly and stayed that way, Newcastle wingers having some joy, and Liverpool doing well through the centre, Salah scored first after a neat ball from Coutinho, but were soon pegged back through a Morata header from a set play, chances came and went and Newcastle went ahead just before half time when Mane was played in by Coutinho. Morata scored his second just after half time after a nice one two between Lemar and Gaya, Gaya putting in the cross.
Suarez not to be outdone selfishly scored the 3rd after a mistake by Skriniar, but Dybala was on hand to score a controversial late equaliser, did it hit his hand? Looked like it did but it was given much to the dismay of Ludy who was making a TV sign from the touchline..

Newcastle 3 - 3 Liverpool
Salah(Coutinho,9), Mane(Coutinho,41), Suarez(Coutinho,57)
Moratax2(Dybala,15, Gaya, 52), Dybala(Conti, 83)
MOTM - Coutinho

Stoke v Leicester

Stoke had a game plan and boy did they stick to it against a top class Leicester they even took the lead, after a very much one sided affair in the first half Leicester just couldn't find the back of the net, however Stoke did after good link up play from their front two, Schick playing the final ball to Lukaku who blasted home for a surprise lead at half time. Rof must have been going mental in the dressing room as they came out very quickly but still couldn't hit a cows erse with a banjo, they mmade the subs tho and after Richarlison and Ronaldo came on it was a very different story, those two came out with rockets up there bottoms and fired Leicester to 3 pts after looking unlikely, Richarlison with 2 and a Ronaldo free kick put the game to bed much to the disappointment of Stoke who put in a fine defensive display for 70 minutes at least

Stoke 1 - 3 Leicester
Lukaku(Shick,39)
Richarlisonx2 (Hazard, 72,77), Ronaldo (FK,80)
MOTM - Diop

Wolves v Aston Villa

Both teams looking for points to keep them in touch with the EL places, aggressive tackles going in from the start made it game not for the faint hearted, neither team held back and the Ref was trying his best to keep it in order, a few yellow cards in the first half and as bth teams were walking off the captains were told to calm it. Second half was a bit quieter and Wolves got the breakthrough on 50 mins through Immobile, Eriksen playing the striker in and he made no mistake, Villa tho were quikly on level terms, Cavani knocking in from a corner on 58. The next 20 or so mins came and went with not much incident however on 81 mins Sub Chiesa drove into the box and was sythed down by Trippier, he was shown his second yellow of the day and he trundled off, Higuain placed the ball on the spot and smashed it low to the right of of the keepers fingertips, Villa stood firm until the end and left with 3 fantastic points

Wolves 1 - 2 Aston Villa
Immobile(Eriksen,50)
Cavani(Hamsik,58), Higuain, Pen, 82)
Trippier 81 mins

Everton 1 - 2 Chelsea
Sterling (Parejo) ; Neymar (Mbappe), Aguero (Sandro)

The away side just had too much in attack in the end. The home side were strong defensively which, with great pace and skill going forward they gave the Chelsea defenders a torrid time. Everton had a good balance but for me could've done with a little more attacking nous from a cm to break between the lines. Chelsea's quality in midfield gave them the upper hand as they controlled possession, more chances with it, and their forwards don't mess about.

MOTM: Sterling

Arsenal v Birmingham

A big game where both sides were looking to turn around recent form and propel themselves up the table. It was the visitors who came out on the front foot with the pace and movement of the Birmingham attack causing real problems for the Arsenal defence. The home side controlled possession in the middle of the park however they were put under intense pressure by the visitors which ultimately led to the opener. Alli winning the ball high up the pitch and playing a perfectly weighted through ball, dissecting the Arsenal defence as Vardy raced in behind to fire past Leno and give his side the lead. Arsenal roared on by their home support upped their intensity to match the visitors and soon found themselves level as their control in the middle of the park began to pay off, Goretzka skipping past the challenge of Dembele before firing home the equaliser. With the game level going into the final 10 minutes both sides pushed for the winner and there was to be late drama as it came at the death. Alonso pushing forward from LB was dispossessed by Valencia who in turn played a quick ball into James who had taken up a central position. He had the vision and precision to play in Costa who accelerated into the open space and coolly slotted home the winner, much to the delight of the adoring home fans.

Arsenal 2-1 Birmingham
Goretzka (Llorente, 33) Costa (James, 92)
Vardy (Alli, 24)

Spurs v Portsmouth

Two very strong sides going at today, from the off you could see both teams desperate for all three points, Spurs went close early on but Ederson pulled off a fantastic save from Icardi, the game went too and fro and chances fell for both sides, however both keepers were in great form, it took until the 68th minute to break the deadlock, Ashley Youngs pin point cross saw Icardi nip in and volley home low into the corner, still tho both teams went for it and Portsmouth got their reward when alkl 3 subs linked for the equaliser, Walker to Sanchez and back to Walker, he drilled in a low cross and Timo Werner was there to blast home, a fair result but not what either was looking for

Spurs 1 - 1 Portsmouth
Icardi(Young,68)
Werner(Walker, 79)
MOTM - Ederson, just pipping Navas
