The goalkeeper debate..

Does anyone think we are going to sign one in the summer if Karius impresses Klopp enough from now until the end of the season and if so who?

How many actually proper world class goalkeepers are out there right now that we could realistically go and buy I hear the club have recently brought in a goal keeper development coach/scout I’m not 100% on what the actual role is specifically..

I know Karius started off awful for us but we signed him as a young promising keeper who was voted I think second best in Germany the season before.. He came into a new league new country playing behind a very disfunctional defence and showed a lack of confidence from the word go..

Klopp recognised this and took him out the team and over the last year and a half has slowly integrated him back in.. I’m not saying he’s perfect and still has improvements to make but a few games he has played I have been impressed with him.. He made some excellent saves in the CL game against Sevilla, I though he made a great save against Son vs Spurs and perhaps with more game time might develop further he is only 24..

I think he has been coached to play the ball quickly out to start counter attacks and his distribution is one of his good points though some might feel its unnessicary at times.. I think he is very goood at one on one situations and see good potential in him..

With a more organised defence that has VVD in it organising and talking al the time he is now more in a position where he can thrive and improve further..

I think there is maby two or three top top keepers out there and the market might be very competitive with Real Madrid and PSG apparently looking to buy a new keeper in the summer it might be very tricky to get someone in at the level we all crave...

So I’m going to be controversial and say I’m backing him to keep improving and be our number one next season I have seen lots of good things in his game and improvements..

As a fan I back my club back our players and back Jurgan Klopp judgement I think he is going to make it and prove the doubters wrong..

Probably no one agrees I hope in a few months time I can bring this article. Back up to prove I was right..

In Klopp I trust

Our keepers are not bottom of the PL.

They are decent PL goalkeepers.

They are not top class, and we should only sign top class, unless one of them leaves and we need a replacement and can’t get any better.

If people actually watched other keepers with the same scrutiny they do ours, they would see this.

He deserves a decent run. Mignolet has simply not done enough over the last few years to convince anyone he's the long term option.

Karius has had shaky moments but there are glimpses in him that he could go on to be a top keeper, he needs the confidence boost of a decent run in goal. I would say Klopp has given him to the end of the season to prove he deserves to be No.1 going forward. Else we're likely to look at someone like Alisson.

On another note, what happened to Ward? Read nothing but good things about him.

Waed can only be monumentally dreadful if he can't even get a place on the bench

Yeah I don't rate Karius all that much but he's never really had a proper run in the team like he'll get now to be fair to him. The only run of games he had last year was after coming back from a broken hand.

Ward was just a non league punt who hasn’t worked out.

Looks like he’s got a future in the Championship and might get another crack at the Prem one day but I refuse to believe he’s some amazing keeper that successive managers have ignored.

Look at it this way de gea was written off at the start of his united career, coutious was loaned out before he got the number 1 spot is it beyond possible doubt Karius at 24 could improve and become a top class keeper???

Or we can just continue to pick holes in every game he plays ignore his improved form and demand a better keeper that no one can actually come up with the name of

That Newcastle loan keeper, Martin Dubravka, showed Sunday that he may have what it takes.

He had full control of his area, managed to keep a clean sheet against United, pulled off a couple of DDG type match winning saves, and he did all this on his debut.

I know it's only 1 game but he has done more in that one game than I believe any of out 3 keepers are capable of.

And to rub salt into the wounds, I think I also heard that Newcastle can make the move permanent for just £4m. That would be an insane deal if it's true.

IMO karius is well dodgy.

I am all for klopp making his choice and sticking to it and giving himn more than enough time to improve or not.

Mingolet has made mistakes but is solid for long period. then he goes to sleep. he's slow to come out and slow to release the ball.

karius is woeful aerially compared even to mings so has to step up now.

TBH I take an interest in warm ups etc and karius puts very little effort in if he's not playing and he doens't put as much effort in as mingolet even if he is!

I just feel the lad needs to really focus now of this chance could ass him by.

Now is the time to really kick on if he has it in him at all.
