Leeds Utd v Middlesbrough Matchday Thread

Well, here it is just in case the game does go ahead, although it's looking increasingly likely that in the interests of Fan Safety the game could be called off

Venue....Riverside Stadium...Date...2nd March....Kick Off...19:45hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom could have a trio of players available once again for the trip to the Riverside Stadium. Boro old-boy Adam Forshaw missed last Saturday's 1-0 home win over Brentford after his wife went into labour and is expected to return.
Midfielder Pablo Hernandez also missed out as he continued his recovery from a groin injury, and he too could make the squad. Striker Kemar Roofe will hope to resume after sitting out against the Bees because of a knock.

Boro
Tony Pulis will give midfielder Grant Leadbitter until the last minute to prove his fitness ahead of Friday night's Sky Bet Championship clash with Leeds.
Leadbitter tweaked a hamstring as he scored the penalty which gave his side a 2-1 lead in last Saturday's 3-3 draw with his former club Sunderland, and Pulis has revealed he has "an outside chance" of being fit.
Winger Adama Traore will definitely be available following a successful appeal against the red card - his second of the season - he received at the Stadium of Light which would have resulted in a four-game ban. However, striker Rudy Gestede is out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery an a fractured ankle, while full-back Fabio da Silva is still out with a thigh problem.

Middlesbrough haven't won back to back home league matches against Leeds since August 1980.
Leeds have only lost one of their last seven league encounters with Boro (W4 D2), but that defeat was in their last league trip to the Riverside in September 2015.
Middlesbrough have won their last eight home matches on Friday in all competitions.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga has scored 10 goals and assisted three in 17 starts in the Championship for Leeds United this season.
Tony Pulis hasn't faced Leeds since the 2006/2007 season when his Stoke side won both league matches against the Whites by an aggregate score of 7-1.
Leeds have found the net with six of their 12 shots on target in the Championship under Paul Heckingbottom - they scored with six of their last 29 shots on target under Thomas Christiansen.

So, if it does go ahead this should be a belter, both teams well up for this one ...............I'm going for a 1-2 scoreline with Saiz and Soggy getting the goals..............

Over to You...............................usual stuff...............................

Apparently Boro are confident they can stage the game but the council and Police will have the final say on whether the game goes ahead

Nobody can make a top six team out of these players. Too many league one players in there

Plain to see already that Heckinbottom ain't up to it

Certainly got it wrong first half. Anita, O’Kane should not have started. Why the hell did Forshaw not start?

What the hell? This is not a top six team. Even if we got into the playoffs, what then? We would have no chance of beating the others over two legs.

PH, why take Alioski off? And more importantly leave Felix The Juggler on?

Ridiculous to take off Alioski.

Saiz needs to be fined fro every time he "shows a card" and gets into a needless spat (pun intended).

Its just awful.

completely agree. totally bored of him now. Not the type of person i want at LUFC. portrays just about everything that is wrong with modern day football.

To be fair to PH most managers stick with a team that won last time out. However Foreshaw, unless carrying a knock, should have started in place if O’Kane.

That said the back four are just not good enough with Felix behind them. He gives them no confidence at all.

Lonergan is injured so my guess is he will stick with the German until he’s fit.

Weds should be interesting. Top of the table arriving so should be a sell out - but it won’t be with things as they are.

On the game - I thought the first goal was soft, the second was terrible defending by our players (Bamford might have been marginally offside too) and the less said about the keeper the better.

The third was def offside but by then it was all over anyway.

A very poor day at the office. Nothing to say we will end up higher then mid table.

Such a long weekend when we lose Friday.

Forshaw I fully understand not starting.

Just had a kid was probably tired and probably not part of training during the week as much as he would have been pre baby.

New child in his house and quite frankly work is going to be the last thing on his mind.

People seem to forget that footballers are actually people two and I remember when I went back to work after the birth of my child.

Took me a while to get back into the swing of things and all I really wanted to do was be at home with my new family, took me a little time to get back into the swing of things.

Looking after your players is important, footballers don’t even get parental leave so cutting him some slack and allowing him time to get back into things after one of the most life changing things you can have happen to you is fair and understandable, and like I said, footballers are people too, so we shouldn’t be surprised when a manager treats them as such

Exactly. Plus we won last time out so I fully understood that as well.

Subs I’m not sure about. We didn’t create much on the flanks. Missed Pablo pulling the strings too.

I’d have flung in Sacko at halftime.
