VAR absolutely brilliant so far

While there has been a few inconsistencies on the whole it has elevated several games and IMO has been the star of the tournament in many ways (Ronaldo in others of course).

It's not perfect yet, doubt it ever will be but the game will be much improved because of it. The level of cheating that's rife within the game and increasing year on year needed a tonic and I think we're finally getting somewhere.

Whether Prem refs are capable of adapting is still a bit up in the air but at least we've seen it can work very well.

I wonder if opinions would have been this strong had one of the very few "mistakes" not been in an England game?

VAR is supposed to correct the ref in obvious errors. How on earth Kane didn't get at least one penalty and that Serbian guy too I will never know.

I have no issue with replays and getting big calls right. Its how it is used, communicated etc that I think they have seriously ballesed up. Its very much like Brexit.
Pundits and former players are very split on it.

There is a danger with it that it could totally takeover too. Also it is rather an elitist invention too. Its not going to be used in lower leagues and the grassroots level is it? So that will divide opinion too. Basically only the calls in the big competitions matter?

There's literally a 1000 page book waiting to be written on it.

I like it. Hasnt caught everything but its corrected a few mistakes, which it bettee than nothing.

I prefer this system where the ref actually sees the screen himself and has the final say. I hated what they did in the English cup games, where the decision was pretty much made by the mythical man near Heathrow airport.

You say seriously ballsed up based on two decisions. What about all the right decisions? It's has increased orrect decisions, of course there are going to be mistakes as humans are still making the calls but the mistakes are much fewer.

I'd recommend people rewatch he Kane incidents a little bit more dispassionately.

The question they should be asking is whether there was enough in the tussle before the players went down, becuse on closer inspection in both cases it's clear to me that it's Kane who pulls the defender down with him, not vice versa. In the first instance, he wraps his arm over the opponent's shoulder and flops backwards, bringing the defender down with him. In the second he grabs him before going down.

As said, the falls themselves were both provoked by Kane. It's whether or not the defender's actions prior to the falls were enough to award the pens.

Good header Stones.

VAR doing a great job today!

It's not been perfect. There are some decisions that you could give and not. Such as the decision to give Mexico the penalty against South Korea. As long as he human element is there, it will not cut out all bad decisions or get all decisions correct.

It will never be perfect and I suspect people who expect it to be are the ones who believe it hasn't worked.

Correct/incorrect all too often just means decisions you agree/disagree with from a subjective perspective. That's what fans need to get their heads around.
