York City v Leeds United

Thursday 19/07/18
Bootham Crescent 7.00pm kick off.

York City of the Nationwide North League - Tier 6 of English football
Have suffered greatly in the past couple of seasons. Not long ago they were on the brink of promotion to League 1 (tier3) but the following season were relegated and its been downhill since. An 11th place finish last season for a club of this stature was abysmal.

The friendly is likely to be part-payment for the boy wonder Ryan Edmondson who will be hoping to feature on the night.

Players of note.
Jon Parkin - yes that fat lad striker who scored a hattrick in Prestons comeback from 4-1 at Elland Road to win the game 4-6 back in September 2010 is still playing. He was Yorks top scorer last season with 16 goals. He has notched 33 goals in 47 games for York and at 36 years of age Victor Orta could well yet make a move for the player.

Its a huge night for several Leeds United players.
Anita, De Bock, O'Kane, Murphy, Klich, Ideguchi, Sacko and Ekuban all failed to make the squad for the win at Forest Green. A small U23 bench was picked and unused. Should these players not feature in this game then one can start to assume they are finished as Leeds United players.

It will be an anxious wait to see if Vieira features with rumours of a Cardiff move seemingly gathering pace. Fans will also be hoping to see Blackman and Baker and possibly Roberts who appears to be back in training. Its probably too early to expect Jansson to feature.

Again, judge the first team squad when it is fully assembled. Doing it before makes no sense.

If we add Josefzoon, Diagne and a good CB soon then those will be good additions.

but what about O'Kane, Felix and Lonergan Lubo?

Tell us why one should never sign a keeper in January?

Trouble is we have been in this position many many many times before & no1 can see a change to this & so far this xfer window this approach is still prevalent. The club will NOT sign players of note, they seem to want to take the safe option regarding finances.

Florian Jozefzoon has decided to join Derby County and reject a move to Leeds United, according to Sky sources.
The 27-year-old Dutch winger has already completed a medical with the Derbyshire club ahead of joining on a four-year deal.
Sky Sports News reported earlier on Thursday that Leeds had matched the Rams' £2.75m bid - both of which were accepted by Brentford.

You can't blame him for joining them over us. Bet Baker had a nice debut tonight against York playing in the reserves.

I disagree. There's a lack of organisation more than a reluctance to buy the more expensive players. In the case of the latter there's clearly a budget. I'm all for the club showing some financial nous rather than replicating past errors.

Ideguchi was not as awful as Kebablegs is making out. He didn't stick out like a sore thumb, as being any less competent than anyone else. And even if he had been awful, it's his first game, so let's not write him off on the basis of one performance in a friendly, in which he played the second half at right wing. Give the guy a chance, eh? It's like some people are just desperate for our players to fail so they can have a moan.

Let's not write any of these players off, just because this evening's performance was not particularly impressive. It was a second-string team; youths and fringe players, many of them playing out of position.
Did you go into tonight's match expecting an exhilarating performance? Why? I wasn't expecting any such thing. But I went anyway, because I want to support the team, not log on as soon as the match is over so I can slate them.
Some of these players might prove to be decent in time. Others won't. We don't know which is which yet.

I agree though, that we definitely need three impressive signings in the next fortnight; players who will improve the first X1 and the squad.

Everything feels bad at the moment. A rubbish, cheapskate pre-season, a failure to address long-standing problems throughout the team, an absence of leadership on the pitch, and a coach who is untested in this league. WTF do we have to do to get an owner who actually knows something about the game, and wants to drive this club back to the Premiership? It just seems to me that LUFC is a means to achieving media deals and sponsorship for Radz' other commercial interests. I am sick to the back teeth of owners who suck the lifeblood out of us.

Ideguchi was all sidewards safe balls and no pace. Not sure what he offers at present. Not written him off just not impressed last night
