Resurrection...

Seems we have new owners. Wow!!!!

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have bought what is reputed to be a majority stake in the club. Both are well known, both are billionaires, both are keen to see Villa rise again. Would be Championship rivals beware!

Think this sorts out our chronic cash flow crisis at a stroke.

What happens with FFP is less clear. The Mail has it we still have to sell our top players, but nobody outside the club really knows how big the hole is, and if there's money available there are various ways of easing FFP limitations. I can see Jack still going but hopefully that's it.

We don't know the full story, but ... we're back!!!! Looking forwards to the new season.

Randy Lerner was a billionaire, remember how that turned out

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. After a summer of turmoil, hopefully things will settle down.

We still need to consider FFP or alternatively just forget about it and pay the fine like teams have done in the past.

I wonder if Bruce will stay ???

We should be cautious, as having rich owners does not necessarily mean success on the pitch, but this is positive and these investors have a lot of money and will hopefully have a plan to get us back to a decent level through smart investment in quality players and bringing the young players through.

If we are able to ignore FFP and pay a fine, without being docked points, we should do just that. Fed up with us selling our best players all the time. With Kodjia, Grealish, Adomah, Green, Hourihane, Chester and Bjarnason, we have enough decent players to go up automatically. If we can get some young up-and-coming players on loan in positions we are weak (CB, GK, CM), we don't need to make any permanent signings. I'd like Tuanzebe back on loan to partner Chester at CB if he can stay fit. Not sure on the other positions, but CM is a position we really need to strengthen in as it's where we were weak last season. The older players like Whelan and Jedinak are good for the dressing room but shouldn't be starting as we need young, dynamic players in that position. I don't think Steer will be reliable enough either and we need to be looking at a GK of Johnstone's quality, it's a shame we couldn't get him permanently.

Still a lot of work to do, most notably keeping Grealish as he is the sort of quality we need to keep, and sorting out the manager situation (should Bruce be given another season?). But hopefully it is onwards and upwards now, we really need to get promotion this season and we have a chance with a new set of owners who will hopefully have a clear vision for the club.

There was talk of Jedi going a couple of weeks ago, and if that's possible I think we should let him. Whelan worked out better than I thought and is an option we ought to have, although I wouldn't make him an automatic starter for every game; Barney offers more going forwards.

Steer is about where Johnstone was when he first came. I'd give him the chance to develop. Taunzebe could be a good option as he's versatile, although I'd partner Elphick with Chester to start with.

Biggest questions at the moment are (a) who will actually run they club - we need a CEO, and (b) who will be the manager. I'm not a Bruce fan but to get this season off to a good start he might still be the best option.

Sorry MTG, have to disagree on Elphick as well as Steer. Elphick is a massive step down from Terry & not good enough to start, as proven last night. Similarly with Steer. The side is clearly weaker than last seasom’s side that underachieved, so reinforcements are needed, even if they are just loans. Last season we had Terry, Snodgrass, Johnstone, Grabban and Onomah on loan, all of whom played their part in getting us into the playoffs. You could argue we’ve also gained a bit with Green and Kodjia being back to full fitness, but we’re still weaker.

Ideally we need 3-4 loans, as well as keeping Grealish, Chester & Kodjia. A CB, GK, LB and CM are priorities for me, and should all be an upgrade on what we have.

FFP. Everyone knows it is a load of old bllx. Just there to keep the richest clubs at the top.

Villa should just pay any fine and keep their players.
