No Honour

It’s a very sad conclusion that I have reached, in thinking that a lot of footballers couldn’t spell honour let alone know what it means.

Malcom was on his way to Roma and apparently very happy to sign for them, then lo and behold when he heard Barcelona were interested everything changed. So surprise surprise he deliberately misses his flight to Rome and instead waits to hear from Barca.

It is very similar to the Willian saga between us and Chelsea a few years back, I have never liked Willian since he did that and would hate it if we were to buy him., good footballer that he is.

Malcom will probably not be even a starter for Barca, but will be just another squad player.

I am glad we did not go in for him, maybe our guys spotted a character flaw and decided against him, who knows?

I come from the old school, where a man’s word was his bond. If you say you are going to do something, then you should follow it through.

Disappointing but not entirely unexpected either.

Absolutely true op.

Most are spoiled rich adult toddlers with no clue about anything.

The move itself didn't annoy me, it was the fact he was kissing the Barca badge in the welcome photos The mercanery twa. t was on the verge of signing for Roma, gets his head turned, now suddenly is kissing the badge? It's just pathetic if you ask me.

Complete and utter arrrsholes most of the modern players, especially the foreign mercenaries. Managers as well. They follow the £££££££££££££, nothing more. Then they come out with the usual bollox, about they have always dreamed of playing or managing for the said club they happen to be at, then two or three years later they say exactly the same at their new club, and so on and so on.

They are about as disloyal as they come.

Football clubs & players are all sc@mbags... Its a dirty industry. The only ones with any integrity are the fans, especially those of us who are loyal to trophy adverse clubs like Spurs...... No glory hunters here !!!

I suspect this is more about it being Barca than it being about money.

If he suddenly changes his mind and went to China or Russia on a mega deal then fair enough, but few would pass up the opportunity to go to Barca if it arose.

The guy is entitled to change his mind....it may be unpopular like it was with Willian @ Spurs but thats the way it is. With Willian, he was no doubt being paid WAY more by CFC than Spurs would be offering but would have also had the incentive of a better chance at trophies. Looking back you'd say he made the right decision for his career & bank balance.

Most people in most walks of life would do the same.

Don't understand the issue here. He'd not given his word, so the issue of "breaking a code of honour" is as irrelevant as it is outdated.

And obviously he's going to change his mind when Barca come calling. They're one of the biggest clubs in the world, far bigger than Roma. And it's not exactly a leap of logic to assume that if Barca had been in the offing before Roma's offer was accepted, then he'd have never even considered Roma.

Storm in a teacup. In a few years he'll be a top-tier player and no-one will bat an eyelid when he turns out for Barca every week.

He didn't even change his mind. He hadn't even spoken to Roma yet.

Yeah, I realise I used the wrong phrase there.

So you want him to refuse joining a club at the pinnacle of football just because his current club and Roma agreed a fee for him without any personal terms discussed?

I follow Roma so would have liked him there but absolutely nothing wrong with what he's done. If he doesn't make it at Barca he can have his pick of club after and join club at Roma's tier.

Nothing wrong with maximising your earnings as well. I hate this nonsense about a player having to take less money and play for a lower club and never demand a transfer away all because of some false sense of loyalty and honour.

Basically agree with what the intelligent posters on here say.

There is no way in hell you have only gone for 'one job interview' and remained loyal to the company who offered you the job. Clubs aren't loyal back to the players. He had signed nothing and before about 1 month ago had no affiliation with Roma.

This 'loyalty' thing is bollox. I bet you went in for the kiss on Jack.
