I passed a town football area, with about four half size pitches, goals and floodlights. There is the same near where I live, and now I think about it I have seen the same in Germany and Switzerland. Nobody on it today, but I often stop and have a look at the one near home. They have children I would guess between 7 and 15 at different times.
I don't think it's the PE teacher but a coach who takes them. A lot of the time is taken up with passing and moving, in squares or triangles.
Watching the game last night I was struck by how natural it was for the Bayern players, as natural as walking, to pass the ball, whether in defence or attack, and get into space.
So obviously we should be doing the same.
Then after more half baked musing, I thought of George, Eric and Wayne, who learned their football on streets, waste ground etc. They also had managers who let them express themselves, on our stage, with a great crowd, with other top players, in big games. They played for money sure, but also for the love of the game. Of course there are others but I chose them because they played for us.
Do we think that the coaching would have spoiled their natural ability, maybe destroyed their love of the game.
I guess 90% of players would benefit from the early coaching that I see here ( and maybe in the UK also now ) but would they all.
So my question is : Do we coach all, the same way, or do we look out for the genius's (genii ?) and treat them differently ?

I don't watch La Liga, Bundesliga or Ligue 1 enough to know the talent coming through but I'm pretty sure in recent years all 3 leagues are playing far more home grown players than the PL and that will most likely have a greater effect on how many youth kids are able to reach their potential.
I can't really speak for the rest of England but like I said where I live in London kids seem to be playing a lot of football, all the parks and the concrete pitches are filled with kids playing. It's just whether they are getting the opportunities needed in their late teens? it's why we seem to hear more and more talented British kids going abroad to get that opportunity.

Get up in the morning, walking for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor me Israelites, ah
Get up in the morning, walking for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor me Israelite
My wife and my kids, they packed up and leave me
Darling, she said, I was yours to be seen
Poor me Israelites
Shirt them a-tear up, trousers is gone
I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde
Poor me Israelites
After a storm there must be a calm
They catch me in the farm
You sound your alarm
Poor me Israelites

Possibly they do have more playing, but in the main the quality is not greater than what we have coming through.
lest we forget a fair few of the french youngsters are plying their trade abroad.

Have Germany bought through anyone who looks to be overly special lately?

Brandt, Goretzka, Meyer, Sane & Werner all look like real talents. Will be interesting to see how they develop as a group between now and the 2020 Euros.

But not through lack of opportunity, but more because they are highly sought after. Players like Sancho, Veria, McGuane decided to move to get a better chance where as players like Dembele, Umtiti, Pavard (I'm sure there are even more) are being bought because they were already performing well in France while Mbappe is one of the top players in the world.
