It's all about when you score....

Coming away from the game yesterday, my mate particularly was absolutely gutted with the late Liverpool equaliser and was telling me that "It felt like a defeat" and it just underlined to me that when you score in any game creates a completely false impression of how you remember the occasion.

Looking at it purely logically, when a great game is played for 90+ minutes between two good sides both trying to play in the right way, ending as a 1-1 draw with both goals being perfectly valid and controversy-free, where both sets of supporters could arguably make a case that they could have possibly shaded it, but the overwhelming opinion seems to be that a draw was a fair result you would think that everybody would be happy with the outcome. When those 2 goals come during the game, shouldn't actually logically make any difference but as any Football fan will tell you it does and creates a false perception about the result depending on who your allegiance is to.

I myself would have happily taken a draw before the game as I was not sure that our defence was going to be able to cope with Liverpool's potent attack, which I feared would wreak havoc with our back four, but that fear never actually materialised during the game and I think that overall we managed the threat that they obviously pose quite well, considering just how dangerous they potentially are.

However, I myself even left disappointed that we were unable to close the game out and thought that Liverpool weren't going to score despite going close several times and the goal when it came was a brilliant piece of work from Daniel Sturridge, which he produced from a position that wasn't particularly threatening, when compared to what had gone before.

All this just goes to demonstrate that it's WHEN you score that matters greatly in terms of expectations and perception. If that game had played out exactly the same in every way except that Liverpool had scored when Hazard did and we had equalised when Sturridge did, my mate would have been ecstatic in the Pub last night instead of gutted and would be feeling that we had somehow got out of jail, even though a draw would have still been the same and right result.

I always tend to walk to Earls Court after the game, it's a long time habit, but I am always going home via the Dilly Line. Probably because queing for Fulham Broadway with all the crowd control barriers and that is a proper pain.

Yeah I'm often in the Broadway Bar although Brummie and myself was having a few sherbets in the old Bootsie Brogans right on the corner the other week.

We should get together some time for a few, I believe your Old man used to keep bad company back in the day just like we did.
