Forest V Canaries Match Thread

It's been a miserable old fortnight without any football, why are International games only live on [I assume] Sky?

I found a old Forest programme awhile ago, Forest V Man U way back in 1988. The front cover has a lovely picture of Brian Clough with Stuart Pearce and Neil Webb. Pearcy is still wearing a Christmas jumper bought possibly by his mum, although it's March by then. It neatly summed up for me how the game has changed; it's not really about ordinary people any longer, either watching or playing.

Daniel Farke brings his Norwich team to the City Ground this Saturday, no longer quite the force that they were when beating us 5-1 some time ago.
Before the break they drew with Derby after conceding a late equaliser and lost to Stoke through an own goal although dominating play. Before that they've notched up five straight wins.

After looking rusty at the start of the season Tim Krull has found his form, after a extended period of injury [cruciate knee ligament] and various loan moves. Since conceding three against Leeds, he has only let in 4 in 7 games.

They have Jordan Rhodes on loan from Wednesday, scored 2 goals from 9 shots so far, both in the box!
Their hot shot is a Fin called Teemu Pukki; played/started all 12 games, 5 goals from 8 shots, 4 struck from inside the box again.

Will Norwich take note of Boro's tactics or will they play football, are we going to let them?

The City Ground looks like being a sell out on Saturday and this fixture is a good opportunity to carry on from where we left off against the boro, perhaps?

If Karanka is going to moan st the fans he needs to start inter acting with them a bit more, when was the last time you heard
‘Aitor give us a wave’, or anything to suggest some kind of togetherness. I don’t dispute he is a ‘good manager’, but he comes over as being a bit ‘aloof’. Billy Davies started off great with the fans but toward the end it became very acrimonious, not a path we wish tread again.

Yes, I get what he was trying to say with his comments but the not emotive fans will take it as him being a bit critical. I get that the players will feel a little unnerved if the crowd are a bit coy as they aren’t buying into what they were seeing as Norwich increasingly controlled the game. Fans expected fireworks after the Boro performance and brought into it by selling out the home ends.

I just feel managers should concentrate on what they have immediate control over, which is the team. Get that right and the fans support only increases. I said at the start of the season that it would be October/November time before things click and still think they are close to clicking. Just hope they have all learned a lot from yesterday’s disappointment.

I’m not bothered about him playing to the crowd. He is clearly a little to straight laced to be able to pull that off. He is no Pearce.

Where was Osborn playing when Millwall put 2 past us? because both Millwall and Norwich have worked out how to punish us and stop us playing.

We need more options in midfield, when we lose out there our weakness against crosses and corners is exposed.

Regarding the crowd it's Karanka's job to put out a team that can compete and entertain; we have other combative play making midfielders who haven't even made the bench yet.

Perhaps it's time to make tactical changes to the team before they lose and pick a team to match up to the opposition?

Tactical changes essential. Yacob and Tachtsidis must have been signed for a reason. Watson and Colback together seem to allow other teams to dictate. Pantillimon must unnerve the back line and Osborn is wasted at left back.
Exceptionally poor management yesterday.

Beat Bolton and fans will soon forget Saturday.

Beat Bolton and it will just prove we can’t perform at the City Ground, quite worrying as half our games will be played there.

Yes, I agree. Forest need to come to terms with the expectations that the fans have this season and quick. It could really overwhelm them otherwise. I’m hoping Karanka rises to the challenge.

You have to say though that the fans would have been cockerhoop at being in the top ten in any of the last five seasons so we shouldn’t forget that it appears progress is being made.

Forest are also going to call in that at favour from the 3-2 defeat back in May that kept Bolton up so it’ll be all smiles for the Tricky Trees in 48 hours time.
