R.I.P. Whitey.

Sad day, the legend that is James 'Whitey' Bulger has died

Actually, he was a complete caaaant of a man. But did inspire some great movies such as Black Mass, and in part, The Departed.

You make it sound like it was natural causes. Some reports say it was a result of an interaction with some of his new prison mates!

What goes around comes around. Happy good riddance!

The Mafia finally caught up with him it seems.

I also tried to make it sound like it was sad

Yeah, he got done over as soon as he got to the new prison. I am sure he made a few enemies along the way...

He was killed because not only was he a brutal person, he was also a confidential informant for an FBI agent called John Connolly.
Connolly used to warn Bulger whenever there were going to be FBI or police raids on his crew, in return Bulger ratted out quite a few people to them. It was one of these warnings that sent Bulger and his wife on the run.

When Connolly died Bulger list his advance warning system and was caught in Santa Monica LA. Bulger also supplied weapons and money to the Irish Republican Army during the troubles.

The guy who killed him was connected to organised crime syndicates and was already serving life without parole, so killing Bulger would be rewarded in certain ways. For instance if he has a wife and children or other family, then the “Mob” would ensure their financial future as well as their safety.
