Anthony Taylor

Fantastic win for City

I have to admit I was twitching in my seat after United bagged but it all came good in the end and City finished with a well deserved win

And despite all the hyperbole, prior to the game, surrounding the refereeing appointment I have to say I thought Anthony Taylor did a brilliant job refereeing this contest.

Despite being lenient with one or two challenges that may have warranted yellow cards I though he managed the game well and got all of the major decisions correct, e.g. the penalty, giving advantages, correct bookings.

Referees are constantly getting knocked for poor performances, with much of it being warranted.

I just thought it about time one of them got some credit.

City barely put in a tackle on us. It was all far too easy for United. City only put in 12 tackles all match. Couldn't get near us. And the two times they did, it should have been at least 2 yellow cards. The ref gifted the game to City, who could not get near us.

First half, Lingard or Rashford (can't remember) was brought down by Fernandinho. If they weren't brought down they were running straight at your defence. It was a clear yellow card.

That does ring a bell actually but let's be honest

Fernandinho was not guilty of 2, let alone 3, yellow card offences

You said you were struggling to recall a single instance....

Anyway, Fernandinho should have been booked for that challenge and if not for persistent fouling afterwards. It doesn't really matter as it had no bearing on the result.

I think he was happy that Silva scored the first goal, otherwise he’d have had a big decision to make (and arguably should have made it anyway). Aside from that, I thought he was good. Wasn’t really a difficult game though to referee, it was quite passive for a derby game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very passive, no idea where all the injury time came from, apart from Sergio's slow walk to be substituted (they really should stop the clock for that).Ref had a good game and avoided the decision on what would have been a penalty and yellow had Merlin not scored. Because of the goal no yellow was given (cannot remember who the United player was) when it should have been. The wrestling match Mendy/Sanchez could have gone the other way and Youngs handball clearly was a handball, even if not intended.

I was

You then gave that example and it rang a bell

Isn't that how jogging someone's memory works?

He didn't do too badly but Im not sure how a ref from Manchester is given the Manchester derby to referee!? It's such bad planning and actually puts the ref in a really bad position that could have easily been avoided.

I’d argue that it could have been a red.

He had a good game but I do think Fernandinho could have seen two yellows. He stopped two breakaways. The foul on lingard in halfway especially
----------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the myth being peddled by United fans, City do tactical fouls to stop a counter.
Hence, any infringement by Fernandinho would be seen as such.
But what they always conveniently omit is the fact that their players also commit the so called tactical fouls without being booked.

Young arguably could have been booked for persistent fouling. At least 3 fouls including a hand ball, kicked the ball away once and a bit of a temper tantrum at the ref in the second half.

I think Python and Vida have alluded to the same challenge and if it is the one I am now thinking of, he should have definitely have been carded for that.

Thinking on it, I now seem to recall D Silva kicking the ball away, late on, as well. Nit picking here but on another day, with another ref, he could have seen yellow for that.

You know what. I've changed my mind. Taylor was crap wasn't he?!?!?

He let far too much go.

Tactical fouls - All teams do it

Statistically City commit less fouls than all of the other teams. Or at least they had before the Derby.

That might have something to do with the amount of possession they enjoy in comparison to the other teams.
