Newcastle v Wolves Match Preview [LIVE]

Date: Sunday 9th December
Venue: St James’ Park
Kick-off: 16.00

This game will be live on Sky Sports.

On Sunday Nuno Espirito Santo takes his wolfpack to St Jame’s Park to face a resurgent Newcastle side.

Wolves go into this game with their tails up and brimming with confidence after coming back from a goal down to Chelsea at Molineux to record a shock defeat for the visitors.
Due to suspension, Wolves were without star midfielder Ruben Neves who was replaced by Romain Saiss. Nuno also gave a first start to 18-year old starlet Morgan Gibbs-White who put in a sparkling performance which belied his tender age.

After 10 league games without a win, Newcastle had a successful November taking successive wins against, Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley. This was followed by a home defeat to West ham and a well-earned draw against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Rafa Benitez sets up his team in a similar way to Nuno with emphasis on resolute defending and breaking at pace to attack the other end but until 1 hour before kick-off, Benitez will have no idea if Nuno will play his newly displayed 3:5:2 system or revert to his favoured 3:4:3. The latter system has proved successful throughout last season’s campaign and against some of the best sides in the league this season, however Wednesday’s stunning defeat of Chelsea will have left a huge amount of Wolves fans gagging for more of the same.

With Nuno’s worst ever run of results prior to the Chelsea game, hopefully a thing of the past and with Benitez finally getting better performances from his players, this has all the makings of a good game. Ultimately though, I think Wolves will prove too strong for the Magpies and predict a narrow win for the visitors.

Gem’s prediction: 1-2

Why wouldn't he just drive to Newcastle?!?!?!?

It is only 3 1/2 hours for feck sake!?!?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Depends where he lives. I am going on a stag do in Benidorm next April and have found it’s cheaper for me to fly from Gatwick the night before everyone else goes and stop in a hotel overnight than it will be just for the train back to Birmingham to catch the same flight as the group.

So if the Wolves fan lives on the south coast, I can definitely sympathise with them trying to get to Newcastle and believe it would be cheaper to go via Benidorm.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well yeah i am just assuming he lives in Wolvo.

Used to drive to toon after that fateful stag do every other weekend, took me five hours from Southampton.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Plus if you drive it makes it more difficult to drink on an away day. That lad is having a 3 day drinking session.

He needs to man up skip work Friday, leave home at 8 am, get to toon friday lunch time, drink til 4 am, go to bed, get up at 10am, eat breakfast, drink til 4am, sleep, get up at 9am, drink a couple prior to match time to take the edge off, enjoy game, sober up, eat and drive home for midnight.

Not sure he needs to man up. He is basically doing that, but doing the majority of his drinking in a warmer climate. Can’t blame him to be fair.

I think he is just worried about his winter tan Tam.

Reading an amusing story of a Wolves supporter who is going to Newcastle for this weekends game via Benidorm. Having flown out from the midlands and had a couple of days in the sun, he is then catching a flight up to the north east to watch the game.

Seems like a long journey to make but he has done it because the flights to and from Spain on a low cost airline has cost him less than it would have cost him to go directly by train to Newcastle

Saw something similar couple of years ago. A guy went to Hamburg with match ticket two nights accommodation and flights for 70 quid when going to Newcastle or Sunderland or whoever it was would have cost £150

Flight tickets make no sense anymore and the price you see is sometimes less than all the BS you have to pay extra like luggage, taxes, seats etc etc

Ha! I wish it was me. I can’t get away tickets anymore unless I buy from someone who is just topping up their points and selling on. I refuse to do that.
