Another Centre Half? Really?

Report out saying Yohan Benalouane from Leicester is the first signing of the transfer window on an 18 month deal

He is a Centre Half - I know we have injuries but when all fit that will give us 5 senior centre halves, plus Worrall to come back, plus Robinson who can play there.

Surely we would be better off getting another left back in who could cover for Robinson?

Unless they are going to accept the offer for Fox which would be surprising, but he is out of contract this summer so perhaps they are looking to get some money in?

Danny Fox gets in the team, at least in part, because of his cultured play bringing the ball out of defence into attack, he has played some wonderful cross field through balls getting us on the front foot.

True. But his job is to defend and he’s not great at it. When he was out of the team we stopped conceding goals. That also coincided with D@wson having a run of games so perhaps they should play together. Best combo is MD and Figs.

Fox is a left footer; plays some good diagonal balls to the RM. MD plays them right to LM. Fox not a great defender, but at least as good as Figs and better than Hef

By the way, nobody ever seems to have reached a consensus here on how to pronounce his surname. Some attempts include:

Ben-A-Loo-Arnie
Ben-A-Loon
Ben-A-Lu-Wan
Ben-Al-Wan

Even the stadium announcer has flitted between a few of these from time to time when reading his name on the teamsheet.

Most around here know him as Benny.

Agree with that. Fox has massively improved from where he was a few years ago. His never say die attitude has been a plus over the last year or so. No surprise that the defence has generally beeen better for it?

This Tunisian lad has got a great opportunity to stake a claim at the CG. Hope he makes the most of it. It probably is a little plan B after they were knocked back in trying to recall Worrall. I’ll give him a chance to prove himself first, though.

Bit negative by the 79/80 IMO, the lad had other officers in some more exotic locations, although I guess he will earn a lot more here at the CG.

I've read a few opinions of our new CB from those who have seen him play.

Are there any readers of a certain age who have been reminded of Sammy Chapman? Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Oh dear; no matchday thread!

I'm off in a few minutes so I'll post this here:

Go for it Martin; go old school 4-4-2:

Pants

Janko, Benalouane, Robinson, Osborn

Carvalho Colback Yacob Lolley

Grabban Murphy

4-0

Pretty astute there Red450.
Move Yacob to CH , Osborn to midfield and replace Cash for Cavalho and you've got it spot on...
