Player ratings vs. Man Utd

Another day, another match, another goal conceded in the first 10 minutes. I reckon soon the opposition fans will start booing if they don't see an early goal.

Here are my ratings:

Schmeichel: 6 - Distribution sometimes poor again, but dealt with what he could in the penalty area.
Ricardo: 6 - Was a major contributor to conceding the goal and given a tough time defensively. But still a class operator in general play going forward.
Evans: 7 - A good reader of the game; looks a better partner for either Maguire or Morgan than each other.
Maguire: 8 - Often the driving force in the game as he was more determined than the central midfielders in front of him to get the ball forward in whatever way he could. Defensively strong also. My choice for our MOTM.
Chilwell: 7 - Made several characteristic forward runs to help push the team forward. Another good performance.
Ndidi: 6 - Looks happier playing the bigger teams where there's less pressure on him to set the pace of the game. But still not prime Ndidi.
Mendy: 5 - Off form and shouldn't be playing. Barely even looked forward, let alone attempt a pass in that direction. But did read the game well to make interceptions at times.
Gray: 5 - Had the kind of game where he didn't look certain which pitch he was playing on. Too often slow in the mind.
Maddison: 6 - Despite the consternation over his substitution, he wasn't exactly tearing the Man Utd defence apart. Willing to get on the ball and put in some good corners though.
Barnes: 7 - Lively and keen to make something happen. A surprise that he should stay on for the entire match, but deserved it.
Vardy: 6 - Cut a frustrated figure and was lucky not to get send off for a wild challenge in the first half. Got a couple of half chances but may be starting to lack confidence given how few good chances he's getting.

Ghezzal: 6 - Looked visibly knocked by the booing that greeted his substitution, but grew into the game and had a very good free kick well saved.
Okazaki: 6 - Suffering from lack of game time. Ran around a lot and put himself about, but made too many wrong decisions around the box.
Iheanacho: 5 - Made one superb headed clearance to spark an attack to the opposite end of the pitch. Unfortunately that header was in the Man Utd box.

In a way, this was a game of two halves. The first was Man Utd's, as they showed their quality and we once again conceded early. In the second, Utd looked weaker, more tired, and a comeback could have been on if we'd found the necessary quality and inventiveness.
Obviously, we didn't.

I thought it was a pretty good display, barring a Ricardo defensive disaster, it would have been a point. We are playing well but it’s clear why Tielemans has been brought in - we are desperate for some attacking quality in midfield

Rashford had a couple of good chances before he scored as well.

It’s was an “ok” performance.

Pereira and Chilwell has good games. Brands had an excellent game.

Sadly for everyone else, I felt it was all a bit too, well, meh.

Barnes our MOtM for me. Maguire steady but at fault for the Rashford chance and partly for the goal.

Brands = Barnes 🙄

Nothing much to argue about.

Pereira proved once again he is definitely our best right winger.

Our 'fans' are an embarrassment, booing Maddison off the park and Ghezzal on to it. Credit to the lad for putting in a reasonable performance after that with an almost perfect free kick that would have beaten Kasper.

Totally agree Nuneaton. In fact, I agree so much I was writing an article about this as you typed!

Yes can’t argue too much about the scores. It’s a bit damning that our CB was our best creative outlet, but not a bad performance overall. Just typical: concede early, look half decent, but lack enough creativity in the final third.

Nev will probably come on and moan about the booing - and he’d be dead right this time. It wasn’t just a case of the substitution being booed, but also Ghezzal as he came onto the pitch. Ian was also booed consistently by some around me. Our fans need to have a serious word with themselves - how exactly will this help?

I thought Vardy was largely quiet and didn't understand why Maddison was subbed?

Thought Barnes was your best player. Looked dangerous when he got the ball. He frightened our defenders when he got it. If he can play like that consistently, you'll have some player on your team.

With no Albrighton available
Would it not have been better to put Simpson at rb and Ricardo on the wing
