An Idea for Discussion

I have had an idea swirling around in my head for a few weeks and, with all due humility, I present for my fellow Rams fans to agree with or shoot down as they see fit.

It concerns our long problematic left back position. Ashley Cole’s arrival facilities it rather than obviates the need. I think Mason Bennett would make an excellent left back. He is strong and quick, knows how to put in a tackle and can put in a decent cross from time to time. He appeared to be reasonably two-footed. With some mentoring by Ashley I believe he would become a super DCFC asset in this position and would advance his career in that finding a decent LB always seems to be very difficult.

I would envisage a few games at left back with the U 23’s with Ashley Cole as his guide and mentor. Then some games with the Championship.

What do my fellow Rams fans think?

And to think that last year some of you were being accused of to much froth and trivia. Now this is a proper footy thread. Ramdini, AJ, Scouse, Desi, Spart

The left back in the dressing room joke was old when I was a kid FFS.

I think Mason should be left back in the dressing room. Possibly.

That was actually very good - made me SALTS (Smiled A Little Then Stopped)

I see the thinking behind why you'd suggest that Ramdini but would consider Bennett third choice behind Malone and Lowe. ( I see Fozzy and Ollson leaving and there should be NO WAY of either getting a contract extension).

I had similar thoughts with Russell as a right wing back, would have loved to see Derby play 5-3-2 or 3-4-3 with Russell down the right side.

I'd prefer to see Mason Bennett get game time through the middle as a CF, maybe brought on for 10 - 15 mins in this position. Has he played many games as CF in the U23?

But Desi, You cannot leave out Waghorn and Marriott for Bennett? Surely.

I'd consider Bennett as third option. Should we remain in Championship next season I'd consider the following order for CF:

1. Marriott
2. Waghorn
3. Bennett

Did we ever resolve the issue of whether Cyrus Christie was a right back or not? That generated a lot of debate as I recall.

He did pretty well for us there I think. After all the comment above I still think Mason Bennett would do OK for us there.

But of course - it's what FL thinks that matters.

There being LB of course.

It is just as well football teams are run as a dictatorship not a democracy.
