Predictions: what we need

I normally don't do articles like this, but I think it will be a hugely interesting summer at United. I'm going to base my predictions on Ole getting the job, for me he is in pole position. (not going to mention specific players as incomings, because I don't really know that much about the players we have been linked to)

In this scenario I think we will have a much quieter summer than people expect, in terms of incomings. We have a fair few issues in the squad but to be honest I think a lot of it is to do with what we have in reserve as rather than the first 11. I think at the moment our front 6 picks itself, that's not to say it can't be improved on, but again there are other positions of priority.

There is a good argument for a new CB and a great argument for a new RB...These for me are priority. One commanding centre back should help one of our other options.

I think there will be a lot shifted off the wage bill, some good players in their own right, but maybe not in Ole's plans. I think leaving will be some, if not all of the following:

Sanchez
Lukaku
Mata
Rojo
Fred

Incoming will be the following:

RB, CB, possibly a CDM and an outside chance of a RW.

Before anyone yells that's not enough, I think you're. I feel Ole will do something bold like bring in Gomes, Chong, Greenwood and possibly Garner, with perhaps Tuanzebe and TFM getting a chance. We haven't had an overhaul of the squad regards youth players like this since 1995, but if any time to do it it's now. As I say I don't think that it will be 100% out of choice, more a lot to do with how expensive, getting rid of and then replacing the dead wood would.

What does everyone else think?

We should be doing both, BK11.

The correct action is very simple.
Being the glory hunters you all are, hand in your Utd jerseys to the local charity shop and get down to Sports Direct for a spanking new City top. Shouldn't have a problem getting a ticket for their games I hear.

CiC,

Indeed we should.

What you need is Poch to get the most outta what you already have and develop what appears to be a good youth system. Pi55ing money up a wall hasn't exactly worked over the past 5 years.

I think Ole's run & short term gain will ultimately be your long term loss
-------------------

Why would we need Poch to do that? Ole has a history or working with and developing young players, is already in place and understands the club. He is also probably under less pressure from the fans than any other manager we could bring in, as he is a nice guy and an absolute legend at the club So if he does decide to bring through these promising youth players that we have, as I fully expect her would, he will be afforded the time to do so with the fans recognising the potential for long term rewards.

You need a director of football in place before you pees away any more transfer money. Sneijder season starting early this year?

I think that the director of football is less of an issue if we keep Ole in charge. That isn't to say that we shouldn't be looking to bring one in, but what do you look for in a director of football? Someone who understands that club, its traditions and how it wants to play football. Ole has been involved with the club at every level and he already understands the club, which will help guide him in the transfer market and identifying where we need to strengthen and where we can promote from within. I would feel a lot more comfortable with him making decisions on incoming signings than Jose, as he will have the good of the club at heart long term, rather than an ego driven short term view of what signings we need to make.

I don't think you understand the director of football role. The manager still has a say in the transfers, but you need someone who has the time and expertise to actually manage that side of it. Are you seriously suggesting that it's left to Ed Woodward after the ballhocks he has made of some of the recent dealings?

Largely agree, OP. Although I think our biggest priorities are another striker and a top drawer centreback.
