Popular ex players.........

who are not liked much now.

I was talking about this with my brother today.

Mark Hughes. Was a popular player with the fans. From what I hear from other Utd fans, not much liked now. Seen it said on here quite a few times as well. Maybe the City link? Maybe just because he's a whining manager? Who knows! But particularly surprising from the people I know, as the majority of them are Welsh.

Roy Keane. Monster of a player and a great captain. Since he left though, he seems to have a grudge, and has a likening to run us down.

Anyone else you can think of? Agree with the two mentioned?

Sparky was definitely a Chelsea fan growing up. Have an early autobiography of his and he mentions it there.

I gather he was quite a reclusive and shy character off the pitch though and that may not have helped especially with the drinking culture at United when he broke through.

Still a legend in my eyes though and scored some vital goals for United.

Cheers Diafol. I knew I read it somewhere.
I was half joking about him not feeling part of the group when referencing his support of Chelsea. He was a bit of Jekyll and Hyde character. A beast on the pitch, but very shy and retiring off it.

Hughes left us for Barca/Bayern and came back before being sold to make way for a Cole/Cantona partnership. Maybe he doesn’t feel so loyal to United as some lifers do. Shame as he was one of my fave players growing up and scored some of my fave volleys. That one against Oldham was special and the one against Sheff Wed was spectacular. Thought he and Cole were an underrated partnership for the few weeks they played together

Became a bit of a journeyman towards the end of his career, but probably mostly remembered for his Utd connection.
Same as Cole really.

what else would Hughes and Cole be remembered for?

In my case, Hughes will be remembered as a great player for Wales. And for becoming our manager.
Cole will be remembered for his partnership with Yorke.
Not quite sure where you are going with this!?!!

Hughes's goal v Spain was fantastic and he nearly led the national team to Euro 2004. Shame he was suspended against Romania in 1993 as well. His United exploits are legendary and hia goal reel would be something else. Tough as old boots but I think his shyness of the pitch meant he wasn't as big a star as he could have been.

Roy Keane just holds high standards, I don't think he has a grudge.

David Beckham is completely the opposite for me. I wasn't a fan of his celebrity lifestyle when he played at United, and I think it made me under appreciate him as a player. Since he left and retired, he's been nothing but respectful to the club (why wouldn't he be I suppose), but I've probably seen him as a more genuine guy since after his time in football. He seems to still be a fan and enjoys going to the games
