A poor display

If Rodgers didn’t understand the scale of the job he has on his hands - he will do now. And maybe some Leicester fans will start to get it as well.

For 76 minutes that was some of the worst football I’ve seen this season. Hopeless. Vardy had 12 touches of the ball. We had 2 attempts on target up to that point, worse than any of our recent games. There was no intensity and no pressing - both things that Rodgers specifically talked about in the build up. It was way worse than the Palace game - only Watford were nowhere near as dangerous going forward - but they still managed 2 goals against our hapless defence

You obviously can’t blame Rodgers for today’s limp outing. You can’t blame Puel either although I’m sure Mersey will try. Perhaps, just perhaps it might be dawning on some Leicester fans that there’s no magic fix to the predicament the club finds itself in - a halfway house without the requisite quality to transfer from one way of playing to another.

To illustrate this, the only time we looked like scoring was a 2016 style through ball to Vardy which he finished emphatically. The players seem to know no other way and without Mahrez we no longer have the quality to keep creating those kinds of chances. Which means we look clueless for long periods.

Make no mistake Leicester are a bit of a mess. A mess that Rodgers needs time to fix. A mess created by poor recruitment which has stitched together some old warhorses (Vardy and Morgan) alongside players too young and inexperienced, alongside some absolute dross (Iheanacho).

Fans expecting the slow starts, lack of intensity and lack of chances for Vardy to resolve themselves once Puel left are in for a very rude awakening. If Vardys injury is serious then we could be going through one of our worst spells for a long time. How long will Rodgers be given to fix this? Well he needs about 2 years. He will get less than 2 months from our fans.

I thought it was a good summary too DUTAC.

It’s clear that we need to move the ball faster and cause more problems for other teams. In my view we’ve been way too easy to defend against and too ponderous in the final third. Even poor teams know to just sit deep against us and take their chance at the other end to win!

I also have hope that BR will be able to change this. I am with the pundits that beleive we have as good a squad as any outside the top 6, and I have hope that with time, we can start to put together some impressive performances.

As for Tielemans, he looks a class above. I hope he decides to join and enjoy his football for a bit in the summer. I worry big teams may come in for him but he seems to be enjoying his football again and that shouldn’t be underestimated.

He also seems to be very mature for his age and have his head screwed on. He could be a good influence on barnes, Maddison and Gray.

I think one thing that is blindingly obvious (to most anyway) is that our speed of build up play does not suit our team, players etc. We have 2 main strengths as a starting 11 at the moment, the first is youth..... this can be a poisoned chalice but can also be a massive plus point depending on how the players are managed and how the team is set up. The second main strength we have is Pace, when you look at Vardy (yes that part of his game will diminish over the next 18 months thats for sure), Gray, Barnes, Ricardo, Chilwell etc. we do have pace in our side, so lets hope Brendan sees this as a strength and we start to play to our strength....... and slow ponderous build up play does not do this.

I am firmly in the camp that the future for LCFC looks brighter this afternoon than it did 8 days ago. Will it change overnight, no of course not. Do we as supporters have to expect some transition to BR's style between now and the start of next season? Yes of course, but Brendan has the experience of the PL and I for one feel that we are in safer hands now than we were.

But then again thats only my opinion

It’s funny how a manager change can being a positive vibe, but the club now seems a much more positive place.

Suddenly players are making positive noises in the media. Pundits are all saying Rodgers is an excellent coach. The squad is aligned to his ethos.

It all looks and feels good. Whereas 8 days ago it felt treacly and negative.

Now, that doesn’t mean to say all will be good. And certainly not instantly. There are clear problems with the team you’ve articulated above that may take time to fix. My hope is however, that Rodgers has enough ability to stabilise and build without too much disruption of a dip. And in reality we should still have a dip this season and remain fairly safe.

Hopefully we can then have a clear plan in the summer to add maybe just 1 or 2 experienced players in key positions to change things. I’m happy for the goalkeeper and centre forward slots to form part of that. If Vardy and Kasper don’t fit then get some money and spend it wisely. If they do fit, brilliant.

What does look clear though, is that we’ve been speaking to Rodgers for quite some time. The club had a plan clearly, they just had to execute it earlier than they would have liked!

Vardy will slow a little but Kasper is costing us points! Palace had 5 shots on target and scored 4 goals.... Give Ward a chance?

I think Kasper has an edge to his game when he’s playing to prove a point. When this goes a little bit of complacency creeps in. We saw it when there was little competition for his place, but then a phenomenal World Cup when he had a point to prove again.

Hopefully Rodgers can get him motivated again. And if not, it may be time to see what Ward can do.
