Euro 2020

Can England win it? On the back of last summer, and last night, some might be thinking the answer is 'yes'.

Qualification should be a breeze, 2 out of a very ordinary looking group go through and then even if England fail there they have a guaranteed second chance.

Onto the tournament itself. We already know England will be in Group D of the 24 team finals. 2 teams go through each group plus the 4 best 3rd placed teams. Harder to fail to go through.

England will have home advantage in at least 2 of their games.
If Scotland qualify then they are guaranteed to be in Englands group. They too will have home advantage in at least 2 of their group games, with a toss up over who hosts the game between the pair. Scotland don't look good to qualify, but they also have the second chance guarantee so who knows.

Onto the round of 16. If England win group D then it is a trip over to Dublin to face the runner-up in Group F. Group F will contain Germany and Hungary if both qualify - so the potential for a tie with one of the favourites.

If England continue on this path then the quarter final will be in Rome, to face the winners of a Glasgow last 16. The winners of group E - which will contain Spain and Ireland if they qualify - will be the most likely opponent.

The semi final and final is at Wembley.
So:
Dublin, Rome, Wembley, Wembley.

An alternative path is if England finish second in the group. This will give them a last 16 tie in Copenhagen against the runner up in Group E (Spain and Irelands group). This route would then take England to Saint Petersburg (Germany a likely opponent), before back to London for the semi and final.
Copenhagen, Saint Petersburg, Wembley, Wembley

3rd place in the group is rather complicated, with 3 different routes:
1 - Bilbao, Munich, Wembley, Wembley
2 - Glasgow, Rome, Wembley, Wembley
3 - Budapest, Baku, Wembley, Wembley

Of course a lot of speculating here. But wouldn't it be great to face Scotland in the group, head to Dublin for a battle with Germany, over to Rome to beat the Spanish then back home to Wembley to complete the job?

This. It’s what we missed in the last World Cup. A cool-headed, accomplished passer in the middle. A not-very-English player, sadly, but it’s what we need most.

You need a leader as well, someone who can pull the team together when up against it. You folded completely against Croatia at the WC.

England has a terrible set of central midfielders, it’s probably the most important position in the side and that’s why I can’t see us going far with this side. Not great in centre back either.

Exactly. And the extra game now with the expanded will exasibate that problem because in addition to not have top draw 1st choices we don't have any depth there either. I find I a little ironic that we used to be week in the wide areas and strong in the middle, now we are strong out wide and weak in the middle.

English football mentality has changed. England have got there confidence, arrogance and swagger back. They are fearless and are kinda like the teams you play in sunday league who have all the popular cocky lads who you know will school your team. Being confident and fearless makes them a big threat

So many people are so negative about our national side, like they think it makes them cool to not care.

It’s one of the most exciting England teams I’ve seen in my lifetime definitely, and Southgate has everyone pulling together.

Can we win they euros? You bet your ass we can.

some of the european heavyweight nations are relatively weak right now...germany, spain, italy, NL (starting to come back now though)

the french aren't H&S above everyone else

probs for england is that against quality teams in tournament football, they are good for 30mins...run out of gas, cant keep the ball, start to defend deeper and deeper and suffer alot

i mean the WC semi, against croatia...they shoulda won that !
