Rotherham v Forest - Match Thread

As it has done every week, it all comes down to this. Lose here and it’s surely over. Bring on Barnsley, Luton and Sunderland, or maybe I’m getting the leagues mixed up. It’s definitely not Mansfield, but could be Manchester United. All we have to do is get a back to back win here...and then another six after that. 78 points should be more than enough.

Being an optimist it’s of course possible. Being realistic, we’ve shown nothing to suggest it’s probable. After Swansea’s midweek win over Brentford, the game plan of playing like dog dirt and scoring like Millwall in the last fifteen seems a genius move. The combination of Swansea’s two games ensuring there will be no Premiership football for them, or Brentford.

Rotherham got mauled by Derby, Mount proving just the player they all said he was. Aston Villa are flying, Bristol City got a few good results and their game in hand plus Villa’s goal difference is essentially four points behind.

It’s tight. Very tight. We cannot afford to lose this one. Even if it’s just to keep it interesting.

Since the start of December, Rotherham have only been beaten by footballing sides such as Brentford, Norwich, Leeds and West Brom. Or, cheating sides...in the case of the last two. Yes, those 4 points would have us in sixth. VAR anyone?

So, it’s a tough ask. They are fighting for their lives down there.

I think it’s 14 years since I ran onto their pitch, with my staggering uncle in tow. A young fit kickboxing skinhead brought up on Soul, Hip Hop and Council pop.

I looked in the mirror yesterday and thought where had it all gone. The fight, the love, the passion. A belly, jowels and a receding hair line have turned Fight Club into Fat Club. Like Forest under Fawaz, it’s time for a new owner.

I’m going to Bali in May, which sounds exotic, but from what I’ve heard, it’s a billion motorcycles and Bintang t-shirts. This would mean any play-offs would be in a bar, Forest shirt on.

Only problem is I don’t fit in them! Refusing to buy clothes that actually fit. Just like my home shores, more Little Britain than Great Britain. SO!!! Forest!!! I’ll stick to the diet, stick to the gym (despite my ever growing injuries) and stay on target...just as long as you do.

Failing a win, I’m going to get as fat as I can. My cholesterol and heart are in your hands.

3-1 to Forest!!

Tbh I would probably give Steele a chance in goal, Pants is not inspiring confidence in his defence, also Yacob for Pele, not forgetting Colback is one booking from a 3 game ban. I do agree with the comment about deluded management, unfortunately MON is proving to be a bit of a dinosaur.

So stupid that we forced karanka out.....

At the rate we are going MON is in danger of losing his job.

Karanka did at ours the same as he tried at Boro, basically he can’t handle the pressure of being a manager, he is, probably like McLaren a very good number 2.

He is similar but different from McClaren in a way. He is quite spikey and doesn’t take kindly to others trying to have an influence. Unfortunately, the board will always want to have their say. Takes a strong personality to be able to slap them down. Clough used to manage it but the unrivalled success he enjoyed at Forest put him in an impenetrable position.

McClaren seems to be too nice and I think players take advantage of him. I can’t imagine him really getting to grips with some of the big personalities in a changing room.

Both are quality coaches I feel but have their flaws as managers. Karanka with an assistant who can shield him a little from some of the things that get his goat could be a success. McClaren seems like everyone has got his number and know how to get their own way. Can’t see him ever succeeding anywhere again. Shame as he seems a decent bloke but football is a ruthless business.

Not totally dis similar to MON, who however as Roy as a number 2, and I can’t recall him being discriminated as a ‘shrinking violet’, which is quite surprising given our recent woeful performances, particularly away from home. I sincerely do like MON, and enjoyed watching him play, but I have serious reservations about his ability to succeed at Forest. The players are individuals and have not ‘bonded’ as a team. Maybe a whole sale clear out in May and let MON compile his own squad, but if this happens the owners will expect an awful lot better vfm than they are currently getting. And rightly so.

Got to hope that MoN is busy formulating a plan for the summer that involves getting a squad together that is far more cohesive than the current one. Too many similar 6/10 performers have clogged it up a bit.

What’s happened to Bonatini? Is he still there or has he skunk off back to West Mids?

Or slunk!

I suppose skunk is more appropriate as he has stunk out the place whenever he has got on the pitch.

All I can recall of him is missing that absolute sitter at the Bridgford End in his first game. Forest needed someone to come in and make up the shortfall Forest were suffering with Grabban being injured. He’s been a compete waste of a loan.
