Cash in on Auba in the summer?

A few months ago I would have been against this as it would probably cost Β£40M-Β£50M to get in a replacement but I am now starting to think, if we could get a decent offer for him in the summer, maybe we should look into this?

Yes he has scores goals but for me he just doesn't quite fit our style of play. The modern day striker now has to have a lot more to their game than just scoring goals, and in his case tap ins mostly . Link up play and being physical, especially in our league is essential and unfortunately he doesn't have any of these traits. His play is very sloppy on the whole.

He can't play out wide and oftern struggles as the lone striker and currently, Lacazette is ahead of him.

He just doesn't fill me with confidence that he will make the real difference when we desperately need him to. He regularly goes missing and has performed abysmally against the top 6 teams since joining us.

He isn't getting any younger so maybe we should look to cash in and maybe go for someone that is more suited to our style?

Yes there is an argument from some that we don't play to his style but that is same poor excuse that has been bounded around for Ozil for the last 3-4 years.

Look I might get it wrong and he might fire us to the Europa cup and top 4 in the league and I am aware that fans will talk about his goal scoring feats this season but when you really look into it with depth and detail, is he really the player we need or the type of player that fits Emery style?

Only the fans of this club would sell the 3rd top scorer in the PL so far, just because he doesn't a lot apart from, you know, score lots of goals

We are currently the most clinical PL team ever. We dont create a lot, but score a lot.
Imagine if we defended better and created more for our strike pair

Ok let's see where we are at by the end of the season and whether he turns up in some of the major games.

I would like to see him do more. Kane, Augero, Vardy, Lacazette, Firminho all add an extra dimension to their play other than goals and regularly turn up against the big boys.

Yeah if we finish 6th it's cos Auba didn't score against a handful of teams...

We shouldn't be selling Auba. We should be suring up defence and bringing in wide players whom can give him the service his scoring ability warrants. His top opponents performance is far more about top team's defensive strength thought the middle. We can't waltz the ball up the middle of the pitch at will vs the top 4-6 and weak WBs with no WFs to bring on, means we struggle to safely work the ball wide to supply him from there.

I like what Emery has done so far but I'm not at all down with this blanket approach to formation, insisting on always using WBs as opposed to out and out attacking wingers. We need the players to be able to use either method to score goals. Lacazette ideal for Emery's default formation and tactic. Auba ideal for attacking with wingers, leaves us able to cause havoc for any team, regardless how they want to play. We are severely limited by having no WFs. GOT to rectify that this window coming whatever happens. The lack of ability to use the option at all, I'd argue is the only reason Auba never stayed the league's top scorer and has arguably cost him the extra goals needed to have a chance of being top scorer for the season.

We have issues in defence and midfield and the wide areas. Big money is needed in all those positions. It's nonsensical to think we should now meddle with the striking options. It ain't broke, so we won't be fixing it.

It’s impressive that Auba has scored as many as he has for Arsenal when you don’t have any wingers. He throved off of Dortmund’s wing play and you are miles away in that areas. You need wingers to compliment him not in place of him.

Not sure that Auba is the main problem. The main problem is that there is no significant difference in the "style of play" between the Wenger years and this season.

Still takes for ever for this team to get the ball down the pitch, no real fast break, too many lazy players, lots of pretty cross-field passing while the other team get it's players back to defend. Much as it hurts me, I have to say how impressive Man U. were in how they continually put Barcelona under pressure, especially in the second half. Maybe this manager and team should consider a fresh approach?
