Just heard the news on DD.What a stupid thing to do.No sympathy with these people at all. Paid massive salaries, but wont get a driver or taxi.
I really wanted him to stay at our club,he could have regained his England place.
Wonder if he regrets his move to Chelsea now. ?
All very sad. The grass is not always greener.

How is drink driving a sign he's unhappy? That's a massive and random leap in logic.
Besides, people attribute way too much importance to making the first XI. You reckon players like Drinkwater, in their 20s, being paid a literal fortune every week to be kept in peak physical condition and able to snag any woman they want, are unhappy because they're not playing? Nonsense. The lad is absolutely laughing, just like any other player would be in his position. He's literally being paid to live like a king and doesn't even have any responsibility to go along with it.

I always thought the transfer of Drinkwater to Chelsea felt like a lose/lose on all sides:
He was unlikely to force his way into the Chelsea team.
He was an important cog in our team that we had to try and replace.
He was probably not going to get the game time he wanted as his exposure would subsequently only go downwards.
We’ve all moved on now. Chelsea don’t need him. We play a different style with different players. He now needs to move on too.
Who knows whether this incident was in any way related to his current situation, but it is a waste of a talent at the moment.

I don't blame him at all for moving to Chelsea. He wanted a go at the big time, the potential for winning trophies and European football, and backed himself to be good enough to do it. Fair enough.
I do criticise him somewhat for being content to languish on the bench and not try to push through a move at a club he has no real attachment to - I think it's a sad waste of a career and talent that he'll regret in years to come when he can't play professionally anymore. But again I guess that's his choice.
And of course there's no excuse for drink driving, no matter how much money he has.

Getting caught drink driving is a pretty dumb thing to do.
I don't reckon he made a mistake going to Chelsea, he's had the opportunity to try out at a top 4 club, also potentially reuniting the championship midfield with Kante.
It hasn't worked out for him, so he probably needs to think about moving on to somewhere else where he can get regular time on the pitch as he's approaching the twilight of his playing career.

The only thing I’ll add to this thread is that Drinkwater has always seemed like a complex character to me.
I never feel like he managed to make the same connection with the fans that others in the title winning squad did. I personally put this down to the fact he always seemed to be sulking and unhappy whatever the situation. Now the reality is that I don’t think that is the case at all, but he always came across that way.
The Leicester fans and he had an altercation one season and I didn’t ever feel like he forgave the fans for that.
I can’t tak for others, but I certainly struggled to connect with him. Funny character.
That said, he will always be a legend that was a key part of our title winning season.
As for drink driving, we all know that’s a stupid thing to do. No other comment to make there! What annoys me about this is that it doesn’t seem isolated in football. There seems to be numerous drink driving charges for premier league footballers. Why?! Surely the first thing you donif you’re mega loaded and on the sauce is you just get a flipping driver?! Give back to the economy you idiots!

Mersey - I always remember how Nigel Pearson described him as a "complex character".
And that was coming from Nigel Pearson.

😂
Yes, I wasn’t sure if they were the words he used but I agree with them even if I copied them!
Looking back at those two, how on earth did that relationship become a success??! Or was it a begrudging respect? Always looked that way!

Kunta Kante - Fair enough. I figured that getting done for drink driving was an indicator that he's not in a good place. i.e. If he had his wits about him and was genuinely happy in life then this wouldn't have happened.

Incredibly generous.
A lot of drink drivers are just arrogant idiots who think they won't get caught.

Drinkwater was seen in the away end when we played Everton singing about feeding the scoucers to the tune of bandaid at Christmas. I think he did have a bit of connection Mersey with the fans but not as much maybe as some others. When we won the league he was an attacking midfielder and only scored 2 goals.Tielemans has all ready matched that.
