Juan Mata

Manchester United have offered Juan Mata a new contract, but the midfielder has other options from Champions League teams, according to his father.

The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Sky Sports News understands he has already held talks with Barcelona over a proposed move to the Nou Camp.

Mata has featured 29 times so far this season and his father, Juan Mata Senior, has revealed fresh terms have already been tabled by United.

"Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy," he told Cadena SER.

But there are proposals from Champions League teams.

"Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided."

Mata joined United from Chelsea in January 2014 for a then club-record fee of £37.1m and has since scored 44 goals in 215 appearances for the club.

When asked whether the former Spain international could leave United for another Premier League club, Mata Sr ruled out the possibility of moves to either Manchester City or Liverpool.

"City? It would not be the ideal option," he added.

"There are two options that do not [appeal]: Liverpool and City.

"We have to respect the Manchester United fans, he is held very dear here."

I have said it time and time again, my only concern with Ole is maybe the guy is too nice. He has to chop Juan Mata

He's benched big signings like Lukaku and Sanchez... I think he'll be fine

Got a lot of time for him as a man, classy, articulate, intelligent and an all round decent fellah

He is however not all that suited to the EPL as a whole atm, undoubtedly has skills but the physical, pacey side can see him bypassed in games, good luck to him if he does go elsewhere

Apart from lukaku, Rooney, ibra and Pogba, Mata has been the only forward player worthy of the shirt in the past 6 (or so) seasons.

That being said, seems little point in keeping him if he isn't going to be used and cack like lingard and/or herrera are.

Used to love watching him playing. Exemplary player from a coaching perspective.

Sad to see it, but things have become so un-united

Seems like a great guy and no question was a top player in his prime but whats with United offering new deals to lots of players most of you deem not good enough.... Makes you wonder about the transfer budget/policy this summer

Don't understand why we have offered him a deal tbh. Love the bloke, he's a great talent but he is simply too slow for this side.

Love Mata, but unfortunately he doesn't suit our starting line up and is too good to be a bench player for us. Would love him to stay if he was happy to play a bit part role as it's good to have options, but he'll probably want more than that.

Too obvious. Must try harder.

We've probably offered him a new contract in order to claw some money back on him in the summer.

Think he'll go either way. And he probably knows this, hence the reluctance to sign a new deal.
