Sincere question: "What exactly happened?"

Sincere game observation:
The first half was entertaining, even though not really top notch football.
City came out in the second half with all guns blazing. They had Spurs in total disarray and eventually got that needed fourth goal! THEN, it seemed that they changed their attacking strategy and resorted to play a very slow paced game, somewhat like Arsenal does every week, and this let Spurs back into the game. Why was this done with so much time on the clock? Who made this awful decision which would eventually lead their elimination. Why did they not continue to press for more goals? Was glad to hear both announcers finally mention this also. Just wondering...………

I know Im being pedantic but from the first minute you knew city needed a 2 goal lead as they kept making mistakes that they couldnt afford to make.

Those Laporte mistakes are huge

City have been doing that for weeks now. Doing just enough to get the result once ahead, most likely to conserve energy for their loaded fixture list.

It backfired last night though

This. For a long time I have felt that Pep needs to up the ante. Even today they played with a measured approach.its like Pep didnt trust them to play higher up the pitch like they did against Liverpool in the 2nd leg last season.

Its a fine line and this City team is not like his barca or bayern team for that matter.

The absence of Fernandinho has also been overlooked. He is key for the way they play.i doubt Son would have scored the 2nd goal if Fernandinho had played.

To be fair, had Spurs not defended horrendously first half, City should have been nowhere to still being in the tie, after trailing 2-1. Spurs gifted City a way back into the game with their shocking defending, especially by the two fullbacks.

I didnt understand why you played with such a high line today. Yes if you sit deep you surrender posession to City but at 2-1 City needed 2 goals.

Surely you can defend that. Trippier's lack of awareness for the second goal is shocking. He doesnt even bother to look to his left not once.

How he is a right back for a Top 6 club is shocking. If he wasnt english he would be the laughing stock of the league

As good as Pep is he also has weaknesses and this one is one of them.

Tactics, pep lost it first leg, should have been all over so much fire power sitting on the bench too late with subs, Poch was very very brave and went toe to toe, so Poch 1 Pep 0

Same could be said of City.

Gifted Spurs their first 2 goals

Shocking defending on the corner for the third
