It's because the NH and SH have different seasons and this was the time of year agreed upon when WR created the WC.
I think it's fine, it has just been unfortunate that Japan have had a huge typhoon. Could have been handled better by WR.

Anyway, I'll be cheering on Japan today!

I am actually quite worried. The whole world is supporting Japan an JJ has got them well fired up.

At least if we go home it won't be down to politics.
