Time for a Clear-Out

Now that the season has ended (almost) it is time for MON to have a good clearout. By my reckoning we have a first team squad of 38 - far too many. So who goes who stays? Here is a list of names.

Goalkeeper (4)

Pantilimon
Steele
Henderson
Smith

Full Backs (4)

Byram
Darikwa
Janko
Robinson

Centre-Backs (7)

Figueiredo
Milosevic
Wague
Dawson
Benalouane
Hefele
Worrall

Defensive Midfielders (7)

Colback
Yacob
Bridcutt
Yates
Guedioura
Pele
Watson

Attacking Midfielders (8)

Cash
Osborn
Carvalho
Goncalves
Ward
Lolley
Grant
Appiah

Strikers (8)

Grabban
Murphy
Walker
Cummings
Clough
Ansarifard
Soudani
Bonatini

MON has said he wants a squad of about 24/25, he has also said he would like to bring a few new faces in. So if we get rid of 18 of the above he could bring in 4 or 5 to make up the numbers.

Seven players are on loan and will be returning to their clubs:
Wague
Byram
Janko
Pele
Colback
Goncalves
Bonatini

and two more will be out of contract:
Henderson
Ward

so with those nine leaving that brings the squad down to 29. I think the Stags would be happy to have Grant and Walker back again next season so now we are down to 27.

The seven I would try to off load would come from the following:
Smith
Benalouane
Hefele
Yacob
Bridcutt
Guedioura
Watson
Goncalves
Murphy
Cummings
Clough

It may be possible to make a bit more room by loaning out one or two others such as Appiah and Soudani.

Whatever happens it is going to be another hectic summer

Yes, he should certainly bring more to the table than Dias and Goncalves offered last season. It is only a year’s contract so if he bombs then he won’t weigh the squad down for too long. I have a sneaky feeling he might prove to be a bit of a super sub for Forest.

Villa still sniffing around Lolley hoping that the Ameobi signing will open the door for them.

Mr Randall is a bit conspicuous by his absence...

Got rid of a few now. Grant gone to Lincoln, good move for everyone, don't think he was ever going to cut it in the Championship (certainly not ready yet anyway)

To be fair Will, Mr Randall has always maintained a low profile. As Chairman his role is to ensure that the owners wishes are carried out.

I think the squad still numbers about thirty - far too many. And it looks as though more are coming in rather than departing.

I only commented on it in the context that last summer he was pictured with each and every one of the new signings. No sign of him at the moment. Probably nothing and he is busy, probably...

Jorge Grant obviously has a bit of ambition and sees Lincoln as a club on the up with great prospects. It is a great move for him. There’ll be several others kicking their heels down at the training ground who’ll need to be carried out by a forklift truck to get them away from the club, unfortunately, as they won’t have that same drive.

Linked with an ex-Rennes and Lyon right back now. Seems the club won’t be going back in for Byram. Fair enough if the price isn’t right. He did very well in his few appearances but I wouldn’t break the bank for him. This French lad could be the next Louis Jean...😁
