Concussion

What the hell were the medical team thinking in letting Vertonghen back on the pitch? Thought he was going to collapse as he was coming off for a second time.
This seriously needs to be looked at now before a player dies on the pitch. Should be mandatory for a sub to be implemented straight away for any heavy head injuries

Verts has been seen and been cleared of concussion.

Yes, probably by the same medical team that deemed him fit to continue playing.
This is obviously not a matter for club banter, the number of terrible decisions by medical teams in football and rugby (presumably submitting to pressure) allowing concussed players to continue playing is a disgrace.

No it’s independent doctors that did the checks

Also Verts has come out and said he fainted because of the blood.

Let’s get this clear Verts has passed two different concussion tests and will be fully checked again today.

No one done anything wrong yesterday

I agree with calls for temp subs for head injury/concussion or blood.

This way the medical teams can make better and less pressurised decisions away from the pitch, bench and crowd, and the team will not be one player short.

Bullish!t, it was obvious that he was not fit to play, it was a ridiculous decision to put him back on the pitch without further checks and he is now being sent to a neurologist because they have no f**king clue what state he is in.

The doctors followed the guidelines to the letter - HE PASSED THE TEST

He then done another test with other doctors - HE PASSED THE TEST

The next day he went for more checks after being okay all night - HE PASSED THE TEST

So I’m not exactly sure how the doctors failed or did anything wrong when they followed the guidelines set out.

Now are the guidelines wrong then yeah maybe but that’s for the authorities to sort out not spurs or spurs doctors.

But of course a random bloke that sits on ja606 all day says something we should take his word.

What makes me laugh is everyone saying Verts should’ve stayed off yet not one mentions Toby who not only got headbutted in the back of his head by Verts also took a impact to the side by the gk.

Why not? Both went down so shouldn't he gone off for the checks too?

Maybe because Alderwiereld got up after a minute and Vertonghen was still flat out with a busted nose.

He was only down getting his nose cleaned up. He didn’t have his wobble until what 5/6 mins later.

Surely if people are going this mad about it then surely anyone who takes any knocks to the head should get fully checked off the pitch

The problem is the guidelines have been wrong for ages, look what the ‘expert’ medical team with George North - that disgrace was ages ago and STILL they can’t get it right.
The point is concussion is still not taken seriously, the incentive is always to get the player back on the pitch & clearly the medical teams cave into that and are not prioritising the welfare of the player.

The reason that people are getting “mad” about it is if a player who is concussed gets a second hit the end result is likely to be exponentially worse - we are talking potentially permanent and career-ending...
