Poch's pre-match press conference

Selected highlights:

Looking back:
"I think when we look back on the transformation of the club, one of the areas was to attack and improve. It's a massive achievement for this club to be in the final of the Champions League"

On squad selection:
"It's painful every time to select 11 only, of course it's the final of the Champions League. In the last 2 weeks we have spent 12 hours every day with our players - who's better to make the decision, that is my job. Only 11 can start, but maybe one player from the bench can be the one to win the Champions League"

On Liverpool games this season:
"It's going to be a completely different game. The circumstances are completely different. The focus is on ourselves and what we need to do."

On his future:
"I am not important, what happens with me. I am nothing to worry about. Of course rumours are rumours, and of course you are going to ask about me, but today the commitment with Tottenham is 200%"

On Harry Kane:
"This is the right time to ask me .. I think Harry Kane in the last week - Friday or Saturday started to work with the group. We have one week to evaluate to see how he is progressing with his program. We are so, so happy and positive with his progression. We need to believe we can beat our opponent, it's not him and the rest of the team. We need to take the right decision to try to win."

This CL is a one in a lifetime chance for Spurs to get their name on the trophy. It would be unthinkable that they go into it without their top scorer, if he is anywhere near fit. Alf Ramsey got away with it in 1966 when he left Jimmy Greaves out of the World Cup Final, but he was just about in the worse form of his illustrious career back then, Kane is still banging them in when he gets onto the pitch.

Kane absolutely has to start in my book, as do Son, Dele, Moura, etc. No point in just sitting back and hoping for the best, have to go for it from the off. I don`t want Spurs 2 or 3 nil down by half-time then bringing on players to a lost cause.

The form other than the odd CL performance has been poor for months, so need all the best players playing together for one big 90 minute performance.

What’s not convincing ? He said he’s committed 200% what do you read when you see these things? I don’t understand
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He wants Poch to sign the contract with his blood, before he'll believe him

I see Trippier has been hooked by Southgate. Not great for his confidence if he's got any left...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Might have the opposite effect and give him the kick he needs
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't he get that from Tadic in the last game?

Also, it's pretty darn fortunate that this period without games came when it did. Perfect opportunity for Kane to get properly rested. Usually when he recovers from injury enough to rejoin first-team training, he's chucked straight into first-team matches and he always looks like he could've done with more time off to properly rest up. Fingers crossed the full week of training with no matches post-recovery will have helped a lot.

Good point and one that I am very aware of, and for our sake, a true God sent

This is how big teams work: they create histories by being in the finals of the competitions that matter. The big cajunas ones, like CL or winning the title.

Not the local ones.

Spurs are making their first "big" time history and for me that is being in the final of CL first

Winning it will give it the gloss or the cherry on top

That thought crossed my mind as well. Sadly with the game coming up, I just don't see how Trippier could shine, there are just too many holes in his game.

Let`s hope Poch sees the light and hooks him as well.

Yeah but I suspect he will start with him Sandy.

We won the UEFA Cup Final in 1984 literally by our substitute goalkeeper Tony Parks with the winning save in a penalty shootout. Our main, and highly prolific goalie was of course Ray Clemence who couldn't play because he was out injured.

I'm guessing Kane will start on the bench.
As will Aurier.
It's unfortunate, but Kane cannot be fit enough to go a full 90 now, its too early.... he was "running straight lines" just two weeks ago.

Starting Trippier is a royal risk. Doubtless Klopp will have his guys coming down the Trippier side, so Sissoko is going to have to help out there.

"...maybe one player from the bench can be the one to win the Champions League."

I suppose that's a fair point. Whoever is left out - whether it's Son, Kane, Alli or Lucas - could very well turn out to be the match winner. Glad he's thinking in those terms, at least it suggests he might give one or two of his subs time to actually make an impact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah he made a point of saying how glad he was that he could take 12 subs, and that he wants all 23 in the team photo.

I got the feeling Kane will be on the bench.
