United move for James Maddison

Manchester United have begun talks with Leicester over the sale of James Maddison in a deal expected to be valued at around £60m. Lots of news sources now picking this up, so think there’s something in this - whether they can agree a fee that matches Leicester’s valuation of the player is another thing......

I personally think we need to do everything to hang on to him

I suspect there will be a few acid tests for Leicester this summer, and Maddison will be one of them.
We constantly here that the target is European football and to challenge the top 6. However, you cannot hope to achieve that if you continually sell your better players. Especially to those teams above you that you are trying to catch.
I accept that the players themselves may want to go, but unless we somehow stand firm and resist these bids then 7th will be the best we can achieve.
We have a good manager, a good young squad, excellent owners and facilities that are only going to get better. Decisions made over the next couple of months will dictate what are true ambitions are.

To be fair to the club they have played quite hardball with our major transfers since Kante left.

We got stupid money for Drinkwater.
Mahrez had to chuck his dummy out to force a move and we still managed to get Man City to break their transfer record.
We quoted stupid money for Maguire after the World Cup and put Man Utd off.

I agree we need to continue to do this. If players are really adamant they want to leave there is not much you can do other than maximise the fee.

Don't think Maguire is much better than what we have already when you consider the fee being asked.

For both players, the step up and the pressure expected is quite unreal. We're expected to get into the top four and half the gap between us and where the top two finished pointwise. The scrutiny is heightened. Look at Young when he first came. His diving antics went largely unnoticed at Villa but at United he earnt his diver tag in his first few months with us. Both these guys, with the fees they will come at will be expected to perform at a higher level more constantly. Any mistakes in their games will be highlighted 10x more than it is now.

Interesting to see we've put a price tag of
85m on maguire, the papers are reporting
Man city man utd spurs pool interested In maddison and bidding starts at 60m
I'm surprised there going if true for such a young player especially as tieleman who is vasty more experienced is probably available for 40+m
Or do we already have that deal done?
Or is it about British players per squad?

United have been linked with over 60 players so far. Some have moved elsewhere a few days before/after being linked with us.

Tielemans has also been linked with a move to United. Belgium press seem to think this might happen.

Homegrown tax plus the fact a club like Leicester are in a stronger negotiating position than Monaco. I think with Tielemans he has a release clause of £41m doesn’t he?

Nope
