That season where Toby was frozen out and we played a lot of games with Verts and Sanchez at CB, Sanchez didn't look out of place and our defence was good that season.

agreed, some fans have short memories. I just think his strength isn't at ball playing but for some reason Poch gave him that responsibility whenever he started. especially in a back 3 he made him the central CB.

it is fair to say that the defence this season has not looked very good, whoever has played CB. Last season Sanchez looked OK, where he played a lot of games.

Crap on the ball and we have procession more often than not

When we are up against it he is a good defender and has some good game, however his poor games have outweighed his good ones the last year and the criticism is just.

Sanchez has been no worse than any of our defenders this season. Even with Toby and Verts playing together the defending has been shambolic more often than not.

Toby was our 3rd best player this season

Verts was comfortably better than Sanchez

I watched that match, Argentina V Columbia.
Not a bad team, Columbia, but they won by defending well and dumping the ball down field to their lone left winger. Sort of sucker punched Argentina.

As for Sanchez, if he was even on the pitch instead of the bench, I didn't notice it. He was not a standout. I think the accolades go to the coach.

The defence was awful last season, of which Toby and Verts were a major part of. Individually they may have looked OK , but as a unit they were poor, as were all the defenders. The defending of corners especially was abysmal.

Well we will probably have to accept Vert and Sanchez partnership next season as Toby will most likely be off

Verts and Sanchez was decent two seasons ago, so would not be a major problem for me. Need to move on a bit from the Toby and Verts partnership, it aint going to last forever, and will only get slower. New young blood is definitely needed at the back, which is fast becoming the weakest point of the team. Five good years of decent defensive displays are clearly coming to an end with the current personnel. Our two fullback positions are very weak defensively as well. Rose is still OK going forward, but his defending leaves a lot to be desired. Trippier is clearly not good at either end of the pitch, and needs to go.
