We have sold plenty of academy products over the years for profits....
but...........
how many players have we bought, that we have later sold on for a profit?
(non academy players so pinching Delph really young and selling him on does not count)
GO! ..............(go as far back as you want, i dont think there are that many!)
I'll edit and collate the answers with rough figures....
Rio Ferdinand £18m - £30m
Jimmy Floyd £2m into £12m
Kasper Schmeichal free into £1m
Ross McCormack £1.5m into £11m
Robert Snodgrass nominal fee into £2.5m
Chris Wood £3m into £15m
Max Gradel peanuts into £2m
Eric Cantona £1m into £1.1m
Matt Smith free to 750k
Ian Snodin 200k to 840k
Rob Hulse £1.2m to £2.2m
Adam Clayton
Gary McAllister
Jon Newsome
David Healy 650k - £1.5m

Mont, plenty said Saiz worth 3 times what we paid, but as the OP’s point is, how much profit do we actually make, Saiz will be 3 mill+ down the drain.

If I'm not mistaken I remember something about the Ferdinand ManU sale and because of debt ridden Leeds needing money very quickly they didn't get the full amount for him!..
Something to do with Leeds having to pay an installment on a debt and ManU agreed to pay the money needed as long as Leeds let them off the last installment!..

Although he was expensive for a reenager when we bought him from Charlton, surely we must have made a profit on Lee Bowyer?

Lee Bowyer
(Signed July 1996, £2.8million; sold January 2003, £100,000)
With just a season left on his contract and the player seemingly unwilling to sign a new one, Leeds did their best to sell controversial midfielder Bowyer last summer. A £9m fee was agreed with Liverpool, but the move broke down after Reds boss Gerard Houllier expressed doubt about the players' commitment. They had to settle for a nominal fee soon after from West Ham.

Bowyer another great example of a player being seen to have value but you only need a contract dispute ( beckford), injury (bridges) or just contract running out and you don’t make any money at all.

Reports were Ferguson recognized Leeds were in real financial trouble and agreed for a full price payment up front for Ferdinand, no discounts, no deductions.

Jonny, I think you'll find that ManU were paying in installments and owed Leeds a bit more on what they'd paid, but because off a payment Leeds had to pay and fast, ManU turned around and said ok, we'll give you that money now but you let us off with the rest of the payment!..
Leeds didn't really have much choice!..
