Mario Lemina

Apparently (and I do say this with a pinch of salt) we have enquired about Lemina to Southampton. He's been left off their pre season tour which makes it seem he's definitely leaving. Arsenal also thought to be interested

No idea what has happened to him. He came from Juve I think and initially looked very good for Saints with even rumours of Pep wanting to take him to provide cover Fernandinho at City. However since their new manager came in he's seemed to be frozen out a bit.

A new day and another name. However if we are looking at new DM's I'm not complaining. Matic just isn't up to it.

I don't actually think he'd be a bad signing. Did enough to convince Juve to sign him and did ok there, albeit never really nailing down a first 11 place - but there's no shame in that at Juve.

Seemed to be injured a lot which would be worrying but a hard working CM that has decent distribution wouldn't be so bad for Utd. Not everyone needs to be a superstar, you need your Fletchers or Butts.

I think the more likely scenario is that Utd are saying to Newcastle - see, we have other options so don't be stupid about the Longstaff price...

I think that's what they tried with Leicester and Maguire aswell, all of a sudden we had interest in Diop from West Ham...

We have enough Fletcher's and Butt's in McTominay, Matic, Fred & Pereira (I'm not saying any of these were/will be as good as prime Fletcher). We need genuine quality in midfield at this point.

Tbf, Nicky Butt was better than all of the players listed on this thread so far, a 21-22-year-old Butt would walk into our current midfield and would be club captain.

I really liked Nicky when he played for us, as you can tell...

We're going to be kicking off the season with a midfield of Matic Bakayoko and Lemina

Wish this season was over already

At least we don't have a manager telling me not to spend money to fly over to watch us play Leeds.

No need... We'll play them twice in the championship next year

The Times saying we've been given permission to speak with him. Looks like he's our next signing.

On the surface Lemina is very underwhelming. On the other hand, one of the major complaints about our recruitment since Woodward took over has been the unimaginative reliance on players who have already made it. It's hard to think of 'thinking outside the box' transfers that have uncovered gems as many of our rivals have pulled off. It would be great if this proved to be our turn. The problem is, we've made so many bad decisions lately that it's hard to have confidence.
