The Fullback situation

I am growing increasingly concerned about the fullback situation. We are a couple of weeks away from the start of the season, and we have a tough start.

Lets look at the current situation

LEFT BACK
Rose – not travelled on pre season tour due to his intention to find a new club

Davies – not taking part in pre season, due to injury

Pre season has seen us playing kids there, all of which are out of position and are not options for the premier league.

Verts could deputize there for the time being I suppose, and so could KWP.

Sessgnon may be purchased but I see him as a LWB progressing towards a left forward, rather than left back.

RIGHT BACK

What a facking mess this is.

Trippier – Sold

Aurier – injured, and not reliable / good enough in any case

KWP – not convincing, certainly not the required quality for a title challenging (hopefully) right back

Foyth – currently seems the most likely option – untested in this position in the prem. Bags of footballing ability, but error prone, erratic, and still quite inexperienced in his own position, let alone a new one. (ok he has played RB on occasions for Argentina)

No real sign of a RB coming in, despite some rumours of Dani Alves

The fullbacks in the modern day game are absolutely crucial positions if you want to compete for the big honours…. And our current situation is an absolute joke.

Two questions….

1. What the fack are we up to? We must have a plan? What do you think it is?
2. What would you do if you were pulling the strings?

How spursy would it be to go out and break our transfer record, and strengthen areas of the team with real quality, but completely neglect other areas, and be worse off for it.

I agree that the situation with our full backs is extremely worrying.

It's interesting that this week Poch got a bit hot under the collar with reporters and said that he's not going to comment on transfers/contract renewals etc.

He also said that the "club buys players" and he gets the blame if they don't work out. I wonder if these are signs that he's fallen out with Levy a bit on transfer strategy?

Not sure Aurier is properly injured, a hand injury. He missed the tour because of the ACON.

He's still be pretty fit having played in that and therefore should be able to start the season (and may be the Audi Cup ?).

Not sure about Davies. Had his Op 5-6 wks ago, so guess he's probably training at Spurs. Again may be some game time in the Audi Cup.

17 July:

"Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Victor Wanyama will return to Enfield to start pre-season training next week following commitments with their national teams at summer tournaments."

I'd imagine the current pecking order is

Foyth
KWP
Aurier
Sissoko
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What makes you think KWP is ahead of Aurier?

Give Rose a juicy extension with a release clause if he wants it.

Go for Alves, if not trust in Aurier. I'm not his biggest fan but he's got to be ahead of KWP and Foyth.
