DUFC News

A new league campaign dawns, and yet another year of Championship 'drama' begins on Saturday as United entertain Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Tannadice.

First some sad news. Those around Dundee, and I'm sure music lovers from beyond the cities boundaries, will be aware of Alastair 'Breeks' Brodie, the owner of Grouchos music store in Dundee. Sadly Breeks has passed away after an illness and it's a big loss to the city. I've bought many a record/CD from the shop and it's always been a tremendous asset to the city. Breeks was also a big United fan and set up the Tannadice Trading Post and was given life membership of ArabTrust. RIP.

So back to the football and the news is that Sow and Pawlett are still struggling with injury. The good news is that we've managed to move on Loemba, which only really leaves us with Aird as part of those we really wanted to move on over the summer. At the start of last season I wrote in my groupchat that Loemba looked like he won a raffle to play football and sadly he never changed my opinion on that.

In signing news, we have Elliott Frear on trial, the winger having previously featured for Motherwell in the top flight last season. His xA stats were pretty good apparently so he could well be a good signing, but we'll wait and see. I can't say I know a huge amount about him.

Predicted team for Saturday? Who knows. Big decisions are around who plays left back and what his centre of the park combination will be. He also has a big decision as to play Appere or Clark. I'd play Appere. I think he'll go with Clark. He'll be cautious, sadly.

Also worth noting that United played out a 2-1 defeat at the weekend against Shrewsbury down South. A good turnout by Arabs with a few hundred going down. A few of the players such as King got minutes in which is important.

The u15/16 youth team were also featuring in the juniors section of the NISuperCup thing (used to be the milk cup) in Northern Ireland. They played out a couple of draws (including one against Leeds which they really should have won handsomely and a 3-3 draw with O'Higgins from Chile) and got a win against County Armagh, and I think they are playing again today against Plymouth. Good luck to them.

So as the season starts, I'd like to take a moment to wish good luck to everyone who posts on here and I hope you all win your respective leagues. Apart from Barry, obviously.

I think time is on our side as well, as the team have only played a few games together, but already look like a good unit. That may just be relative compared to the shambles of previous teams. It should keep improving though. I actually rate Andrew Nelson and reckon he will get quite a few goals in The Championship.

Cove to win League 2 by a record margin. That league looks pretty weak this year. Peterhead and Clyde were decent sides and no one decent has come down. Possibly Stenhousemuir but that's it. No Rory McCallister, no Kenny Deuchar, no Lee McCulloch or any of the other famous League 2 strikers who you see pop up on Soccer Saturday every week.

Should watch him against Jimmy Bullard in the know the drill challenge mate. Forrest Green Rovers i think it was.

He looks like Messi in it.

Thanks. I am now allowed to want the likes of Hamilton, St Mirren, Ross County etc to beat the old firm. It wasn't so pleasant having to support Rangers against them. Although no one likes Hamilton anyway.

You can want all you like this year mate - as long as you shed that uncomfortableness from last season we'll all get along fine.

Because I usually want Aberdeen or whoever to finish above Rangers to make it more interesting. Celtic are irrelevant as they just win the league anyway.
