Maguire is off

With the news that Maguire has been left out of our final friendly against Atalanta - for reasons other than injury - it does look like he’ll be off before the transfer window closes. At least, it now looks more likely than not.

Now we can all laugh at the transfer fee but, personally, I’m a bit irritated that it might come so close to the end of the window. We hold out for an extra few million, but are more likely to have to shell most of that extra wedge out on his replacement as nobody else is going to want to lose a player now - and they will hold the cards.

Some will argue that we have cover in the squad, but Soyuncu is a worry, Benkovic is untested at PL level and Morgan is getting on a bit. So who will partner Evans out of those three?

Not saying we shouldn’t have held out for a big fee, but the date we shouldn’t have accepted any fee maybe should have been earlier

Hopefully he will be at the ground tonight to wave good bye

Don't worry, we'll still be able to see his head from the kop.

So Slabhead has finally gone. I wish him well, he was a pro right to the end with no attitude problems. Supposedly he walks in to Man U as captain more or less from the start, but didn't this happen to us with Wes?
He should command a regular place but having said that who knows what will happen with Solskjaer whose season could go one way or the other.

Cannot believe our superb owners have held out for 85m for slab head. We have had Man Utds pants royally pulled down.
Regardless all the best to him.
Let’s see what Soyuncu can do now

One thing we can’t criticise Maguire for is showing any disrespect towards the club and fans. I wish him all the best at Utd, but hope they struggle obvs!

That place looks dysfunctional at the minute - it could be a Drinkwater decision, but it also could work our well for him. I guess that’s the risk.

He would have been better off at Man City where he wouldn’t have been asked to do as much defending!

I think he will be fine at United but it’s not quite the Rio ferdinand style signing some think it is. He will improve them but he will come under real scrutiny himself now, far more than he has done at Leicester

United fans will be impressed, particularly with his ability on the ball, when you first watch him it really stands out. Over the time though those weaknesses will be highlighted far more under the haze of United fans

This.

And there’ll be more space in behind at Man Utd, so he’ll have to sort out the whole ball-watching whenever it goes over his head thing.
