Huddersfield 1 - 2 Derby County

Huddersfield v Derby County

John Smith's Stadium
Huddersfield
Monday 5th August
1945

So, the last match thread was Wembley. Now in the more salubrious surroundings of Yorkshire as opposed to our 'national stadium' in North London, we are up against the Huddersfield, 3 times winners of the premier league in the 1930s.

First thread of the season sees the start of an exciting exclusive predictor league headed by one silk/cotton poster who is already gaining a reputation for acerbic and razor wit with threats to cull anyone who predicts a 3-1 defeat with Keogh scoring.....so here goes....

Derby fans are just awaking from their inter season torpor to realise that we have a name change and are now to be addressed as Derby County as opposed to Frank Lampard's Derby County. We have a new manager and seemingly a new direction but have a number of injuries - Scott Carson (groin), George Thorne (calf), Andre Wisdom (knee) and Craig Forsyth (knee) are all missing, but summer recruits Graeme Shinnie and Kieran Dowell are expected to be involved. So, don't despair.

Jack Marriot and Duane Holmes also out.

After Florest's hiccup to claim promotion by the end of September, this leaves Derby with the gift of a chance to claim a top 8 place by May. We must take this chance.

The jury is still out, Cocu's credentials are exemplary and the signings so far seem to have stirred the juices of the Faithful. It's another season chaps and chapesess, once more into the breach and all that stuff as we welcome back posters new and old

Team news when they announce it xx

Well! That was a very solid performance and everybody played well. And we scored two brilliant goals. They were scored by our Tom. If Mason Mount had scored them we/he would have been buried under a mountain of superlatives. But it was Tom Lawrence and he deservedly won MOTM over a close second - Richard Keogh.

There were many positives to be taken from the game. We looked well motivated, well organised and game management was ideal. The defence was solid and almost never looked like conceding. The penalty was mainly down to bad luck and clumsiness. The new guys looked good if a bit rusty. Tom's goals were sublime. A combination of quick thinking and pure skill for the first and close control and laser accuracy for his second. Cocu and his back-room team had a right to be very pleased with themselves. I am looking forward to the season.

I liked the way Cocu brought on Jason Knight. It will have done wonders for his confidence that his manager trusted him to come on at that very crucial stage in the game of resisting all Huddersfield's pressure get a point.
