Spurs Diamond formation (reworked)

This diamond formation that gives us an overload on the oppositions weakest full back.

..................Kane..
.................................................Lucas
.................Eriksen(Lo Celso)
Ndombele.............Sissoko (Lo Celso)
...................Winks
..................Back 4

When Son returns

..................Kane
.................................................Son
...............Eriksen(Lo Celso)
Ndombele.............Sissoko
...................Winks
...................Back 4

Son and Lucas should have freedom to move to either flank to isolate the oppositions slowest or weakest full back.

The solitary wide forward position suits Lamela, Son and Lucas.

Lo Celso is a key signing because we now have a player that can play Eriksen role or drop comfortably into midfield.

Finally we have a few more midfielders that can spot a pass. so this should help Kane, Son and Lucas

Sissoko has a good season when we had no midfielders and suddenly he is undroppable. He shouldn't be in the first XI when fit.

Yeah love the guy but he doesn't bring much to the table when we dominate games

Last season we had no midfield so we basically never dominated any games, so sissoko was always useful

We've addressed that now so should be in control of most games

Tbh if you played a midfield 3 of sissoko winks and ndombele you would expect to run the midfield in every prem game apart from city. I include Liverpool in that as they like playing on the break anyway

Ndombele is a better passer than dembele was and sissoko is. Lo celso is a creative player great on the ball. Winks a tidy player. We will have a physical presence and be far better on the ball in midfield this season. Lo celso is a bit if a terrier also.

Then another assistor/ creator behind the forwards

Pochettino has now said that Danny Rose is part of his plans and will be staying!

On the face of it, Ndombele/Winks/Lo Celso has everything.

Winks sits as the regista, keeping the ball moving with simple passes, always available to receive the ball and move it through the lines or play it safe.

Ndombele offers defensive muscle as well as huge line-breaking running, and his through balls will change how Spurs play since previously everything went through Eriksen higher up the pitch. Ndombele allows far quicker transitions.

Lo Celso can float between 8 and 10 and again, he's a player who likes to beat the first tackle and break lines with dribbles and passes, or - god forbid in a Spurs team - shoot from range. He's also tenacious enough to be worth his place when the opposition is in possession.

It's an excellent, modern midfield with huge ball retention ability and skill at moving the ball between the lines. I'm very optimistic about it.

We really need to look at the injury situation. Is it down to training methods? Or are we just unlucky?

I’m hoping for better control in the midfield this season. Ndombele Lo Celso and Eriksen would be great to see in full flow.

and leaving the opposition's strongest full back to cause havoc.

No sure how you figure that. It’s the support striker peeling wide not our midfield or defence so we would have the same amount of people behind the ball possibly more especially when defending against team with attaching fullbacks.

Leaves you susceptible. You can't overload without somehow disrupting the balance. Furthermore, as you overload, your opponent maintains shape. The stronger full back and deep midfielder will have time and space.

If your opponent can switch flanks quickly then that's how the stronger full back will find space and team mates in good positions to hurt you.
