Worse than that, a Catholic Comprehensive. Probably not a lot of cricket being played in state schools now. I'm hoping that the post 05 boom in youth cricket will make the England team a bit more egalitarian in future.

I heard Gareth Edwards talking about how he got to Millfield. He came from an ordinary background but was very talented at sports. I suspect that's how Botham got there as well.
Many kids get free places at fee paying schools if they have special academic or sporting prowess.

Fair point hftb. The real shame is that cricket probably isn't played in many state schools anymore. It's easy to see Cook, Strauss and Broad at a public school. Prior and Bell, less so. Maybe scholarships were involved for some of them.

am went to Millfield as many of Somerset's players still come from. The specialises in sports and is fee paying but take on talented kids.
