I think it's safe to say everyone was pretty much behind the appointment of Clarke as Scotland manager. He was the outstanding candidate after what he had over-achieved at Killie and the feeling was if he can over-achieve with Killie, then he can do well with Scotland.
I'm not going to kid on i had my doubts because i thought it was a shrewd appointment but i'd be lying if i didn't say alarm bells are now starting to ring and it also points out that it might just be too big a job.
First off, he was hampered by a lot of injuries for Friday and this is where i do cut him some slack. We were missing KT, Griffiths, McKenna (Probably not a bad thing) Souttar & Naismith.
That said, his team selection was still a little baffling. The obvious one is Ryan Christie, he's in the form of his career and gives you a different dimension in the final 3rd, he's also a massive goal threat.
Clarke opted for Scott McTominay, a boy who appears to be the new Darren Fletcher, someone who because he plays with Man United, is believed to be a good player, he's not, he is in fact absolutely humming of chopped pork. I've never seen a midfielder look so clueless than i did on Friday night, all he did was chase Polovkin about like a wee lap dog choking for a treat, pathetic.
It was no surprise we offered more of a threat when Christie came on.
I'll give Clarke the benefit of the doubt in starting McBurnie, after all he had no one else really but flook me he is so bad. £20 million for him absolutely frightening.
Can anyone tell me when Andy Robertson last played well in a Scotland jersey? It's almost as if not having the best defender in the world beside him is making him look a wee bit average
We're now in a situation where we need to win our next 2 games, Belguim at home tonight and Russia away next month..... Aye, it's not happening and the play off's from the nations league is our only hope.
One final point, Stephen O'Donnell
