James Maddison does not play particularly well when positioned out on the wing, which is why some Leicester fans were left scratching their heads after their 1-0 loss against Manchester United over the weekend.

Leicester switched from their 4-3-3 formation to a 4-1-4-1, which allowed Hamza Choudhury to join the midfield but forced Maddison to play out wide.

When asked about the change in tactics, Brendan Rodgers the following explanation:

“Our idea at the beginning of the game was to press the game with two players who are very good at pressing the game in young Hamza (Choudhury) and Wilfred Ndidi.

“But of course, there’s a setback when you concede so early. We played our way into the game and when we changed it, with the winger and putting James inside, we got a better link between the midfield and the front-line.

“I think it helped us but we couldn’t quite make the final pass.”

I thread that as well TB. That is a very worrying response.

I hope that’s just him massaging the media to make out it wasn’t a royal shambles before he switches to a formation and set of players that actually works.

if you went on a desert island to get out of every day life and come back at the start of the season you would think claud puel was back in charge. yes their has been some good stuff but the way we play is no difference. 2 defensive midfield players vardy isolated.i cant see us breaking into the top 6

You're right, we won't finish top six playing with two CDM's, Maddison out wide and Vardy isolated but I think we could break into the top six if we play to our strengths and stop worrying about the opposition and instead make them worry about us, which of course is what top six sides do.
