Barnsley 2 - 2 Derby County

Oakwell
Down road from Asda
Barnsley
1945
2 Oct 2019

One of my favourite away destinations and they schedule it for a Wednesday .

Still, anything to get away from court cases, drink driving, self-flagellation and lurid headlines. Sort of.

A relief inducing win on Saturday heralded the return of Lee Camp and also Chris Martin. It was a nerve jangly win, but a win non-the-less and lets hope we can kick on.

Phil is expected to keep the same team - no Bennett or TL please otherwise I will walk out of living room.

I'll post the team news. Excuse the brevity of the article but it's all been said.

So comment below - I think we've been let off pretty lightly by other teams' 606ers apart from the usual d!ckheads - feel free to name them.

Team:-
Derby County: Roos, Bielik, Paterson, Waghorn, Lawrence, Martin, Holmes, Lowe, Davies, Bogle, Huddlestone.

Substitutes: Hamer, Dowell, Jozefzoon, Clarke, Bennett, Knight, Malone.

I don't believe Vidal either. These physicians with their lotions, potions, fleams and leeches, mere charlatans.

Do we need beast players?

Martin was always a quality player but some didn't like the fact that he had skill and didn't run around like a headless chicken.

Martin has a long way to go catch up with king Kevin and Steve Bloomer.

He's ahead of that already Desi. Gabbi scored 50 for us, Martin is on 59 now. He passed 50 about 3 years ago!

Three years ago!!! What has he been doing? Why hasn't he been playing? He is one of the beast players in the team and we've only got going since Chris was picked (except the first game)

Pearson was an imbecile to do what he did to Martin. It was probably the stress which caused his auto immune problem.

VC, I agree with much of what you wrote but I think you have to admit Chris did suffer a serious form downturn. And Pearson was very stupid to think his bluster would get The Rams back where they belong. It is a moot point whether he caused Martin's collapse of form or whether he spotted it early on. CM played in other teams but pulled up no trees. Now I hope he can get back to his previous best and be our 20 goals man this season. I think the more sensitive and well renowned Cocu might very well bring about the re-birth we need.

Spart, having spent far too many hours recently visiting in hospital, I tend to agree with your opinion of doctors. The nurses and young doctors are alright, but the consultants think they are God and act like it.

Ramdini, Martin did well at Fulham till he was messed about and I think he was ill when at Hull and Reading. Although Martin needs to be played in his proper position, as Spart says you can't expect him to sprint around the field. I hope Cocu brings the best out of Chris, I wonder why it took him so long, he didn't pick him against Forest.

Spart we will have to live a long time before any player scores more than King Kev and Bloomer.

Get Eric Steele back in!

In Given's defence he was asked to join FL but declined. He was a top GK in the Premier League so must have some wisdom to pass on. Roos on replacing Carson never gave me the confidence, he had a purple patch but not convincing at this level.

Not yet.

Was gutted Carson was unable to get back in. Fans slated him and now, once he left, we can appreciate his value. Thank God Martin returned to the side!

Speaking of C Martin, I believe he's now one goal shy of beating Marco Gabbiadini's all time goals scored for this club.

Thanks for that Peeder, I had Marco down as 60 goals, not 50.

At that point VC. he had no idea what his best team was when we played Forest.. But now he is beginning to understand what he has on his books. A revitalised Chris Martin would do wonders for us.

My point was Ramdini that Cocu didn't play Chris when he sent the reserve/youth team to the City Ground for the Milk Cup game.

I'm pleased he has taken some poster's advice which seems to have turned thing round a bit.

Good point VC. I suppose though the team he then played v Forest was a case of him trying to see what they were capable of. It has taken him a while to see what CM was offering. But, now he has, I sincerely hope he gets back to his previous form and bangs in a hatful. I can see, and do agree, that Pearson did him a gross dis-service in sending him to Fulham. Notwithstanding all of that, there was a drop off in form.

Yes I agree with you Ramdini.

I didn't think the team functioned the same as the Brum game, there was something not right on Wednesday. We should have beaten a very poor Barnsley side. I would have liked the same team as on Saturday, we should stick to a winning side.

I think it was wrong to play Lawrence and Bennett. Against that, we should realise that it was a balancing act between, keeping a winning side and re-habilitating 2 players with important talents and considerable capital value. Then, I don't have to make such judgements, Cocu does. It is a huge pity we conceded in the last seconds of the game. 3 points would have settled many stomachs.

We all make mistakes. I mean who amongst us, can honestly say they have never burnt down a great public building? I know I have.

Dammit when I was at Sandhurst I set fire to the stables, Put it down to high spirits. Never did me any harm!
