WIGAN v FOREST - Match Thread

What an amazing opportunity!

We have the chance of once again remaining within the automatic top 2 places with a win on Sunday

A win will guarantee us staying in the top 2, and could even see us back at the top, depending on how West Brom fare away at Middlesborough

But by no means, will this be easy, there’s a definite banana skin awaiting if we’re not totally focused as individuals and as a team against what could be a very tricky Wigan

They’ve have an indifferent start to the campaign, and have proved they leak goals with a -7 goal difference

Forest on the other hand have shown they’re very tough to beat, even though much of their success has been by the odd goal - the fact is though, we’re unbeaten in 10 and are proving to be difficult to play against

I hope the team, after their international rest will be focused and ready for the task in hand, and do not start to take their foot off the pedal - if we’re wanting to be seen as serious contenders, then it’s games like this that we really need to put to bed and get maximum points from

I’m hopeful, but very wary...understandable baring in mind how we’ve performed as a Club over the last 20 odd years - I just really hope we can keep up the momentum - there is no one for us to fear - in fact I’d go as far as saying, that the only team we need to really be concerned about, is ourselves

Come on Forest, let’s keep the dream alive

Playing Mir might have been a hint to the owners on the striker front. I suspect Mir was forced on Forest by Mendes and wasn’t Lamouchi’s pick.

The problem with not finishing in the top 2 and ending up in the playoffs is just too much of a lottery for my liking

Although that would be seen as progress, I fear if we end up in the playoffs, we’ll lose - let’s be honest, our history there isn’t great - and it’s all a total lottery in the end

If that’s the case and we miss out on promotion by failing in the playoffs, I fear we’ll be back to square one next season, we probably a new manager

If the redevelopment is to go ahead, how do you think our owner will cope with a team still playing the likes of Wigan, Reading and Barnsley, rather than Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd

I’m not sure how it’ll all pan out

Agree that the side was too weak to get much out of the game. I think it showed what we all know. Bostock, Mir and Robinson aren't good enough. We looked immediately impoved as soon as the subs came on.

I hope the tactic was that we are unlikely to get anything more than a point...and as such, we tried a new formation and gave the fringe players a run out.

So hopefully, they will be fresh for the next two home games and we take maximum points. If we'd have started with the subs on the pitch and the jokers they replaced off it, then we would have won.

Thursday a.m. can't come quick enough : )

I think Lamouchi thought that team would have been good enough not to lose. The two home games represent an opportunity for 6 points on the board but maybe he was a looking a little too far ahead yesterday?

I don't agree entirely that Bostock, Mir, and Robinson aren't good enough. I think that the problem on Sunday was that the manager made too many changes; five in personnel and one in formation.

Only one change was necessary; Sow was out and I think Bostock was the obvious replacement. I think that had that been the only change Bostock and the rest of the team would have played better than they did on the day.

Robinson has played plenty of games at LB and a few as a left sided CB, and done fine. But we didn't need to change the LB on Sunday.

We played Ameobi out of position a few games back it didn't work. We played Ribeiro out of position and that didn't work. Lesson learned? Don't play players out of position. (Except in an emergency)

Mir I will agree he is probably not good enough.

Adomah should have come on rather than Carvalho.

I agree, things always seem to go a bit awry when managers start putting square pegs in round holes. The best example is the sheer amount of different players who have been tried out at left back over recent years at Forest. Only one you could really call a success was Cohen playing there.

In this league, you need to match up players in the position they are most familiar with so they can approach a game confident that they know what they’re doing. Something that works well on the training ground often doesn’t translate well to a match situation.

On the flip side, you could say Lamouchi is brave and isn’t afraid to try out a plan b. When injuries and suspensions bite later in the season, he and his coaching staff will hopefully have a better idea of workarounds for any given issue.

Cash has also converted to a right back relatively successfully. Have to say that he is an exception to the rule, really. The fact he can run all day like Steve Stone used to be able to do is a big plus wherever he plays in the team.

Some great results for us last night,
Would of been nice for barnsley to hold out vs WBA but a win places us in the top two, a point off top.

Really fancy sabri to have learned alot from the wigan game.

Start dawson if he can, start Chema if he cant.
Silva is the better overall option than bostock, who is probably below Sow at the moment....and he's injured.
Grabban to start is a must, and if hes really going to be brought off to give him a rest, it should be in the second half where whoever coming on is fresh vs a tired backline, and we're not chasing the game.
