Racism in English football

Haringey Borough players walked off the pitch and the match had to be abandoned against Yeovil in the FA Cup today.
Apparently some Yeovil "fans" were racially abusing the opposing goalkeeper , threw objects at him and even spat at him

Boom! That's the sound of our national ego crashing back down to earth after we all got on our high horses and moaned about the incidents in Bulgaria on Monday night.

Unfortunately racism is still alive and well in English football especially at the lower levels. We often read about horrible stories that often get swept under the rug but reading about the horrors that the keeper had been subjected to in that FA Cup match today gives you absolute chills and serves as a reminder that here in England we still have a lot of work to do.

Let's hope the idiots who did this will all be identified and will face the consequences.

It's bad enough to be a victim of racism on a football pitch , but when you get spat on and have objects thrown at you as well that's completely unacceptable.

I think we can all agree on this , if nothing else.

sad to hear the news

but i think the op could have done a better job.
The article reads like England do not have a right to complain about racism from others because there is stil racism in english football. This is the stance the Bulgarian FA also tried to take.

what i see instead is that more work still needs to be done to battle racism in football and society in general not that England should not callout other countries who are being racist

You're right.
Of course we should criticize Bulgaria or any other country for incidents of racism in football as we rightly did all this week but my point is stories like this in the FA Cup will the perfect "told you" for some people in Bulgaria

The difference is action will likely be taken... It won't be excused like in some countries

I don't think anyone is really naive enough to think it doesn't exist in the British game... But its not accepted like elsewhere

British game or English? I haven’t seen any reports from the other home nations. Not saying there isn’t, but the majority are English which you’d expect given population sizes. Just sayin...

Haringey Borough is about a five minute drive from WHL, where I was at, and I can assure you that with 60,000 in the ground, there was not a hint of racial abuse, that may have been because were were all asleep.

Interesting to see if there’s any evidence for this - if not then the FA will have a tough time... they’ll be expected to act, particularly given recent events.

Such a shame that we have to discuss this in 2019.

It was an FA Cup tie so more than likely there would have been tv cameras there

Yeh maybe, though if it’s not happened when play is at that end then I doubt it.

Of course it still happens here.

You'd have to be a complete ignorant, naive idiot to think that it didn't.

This country is no saint.

But the difference, is that the players, managers and officials will not be ignorant of it and will condemn it.

But that doesn't mean that's were the buck stops. Still, more action needs to be taken against those perpetrators.

Maybe we can never stop racism, but we can certainly be one of the leading lights in stopping racism in its tracks whenever it arises.

And this is the difference, we want to make positive changes.

England has a racism problem. That's not in dispute. I think most, if not all, do. The difference between the incident that has happened in the England in recent years compared to what has happened recently in Bulgaria is that the FA has taken action and now swept it under the rug.

Also, just because we have an issue we're dealing with, we can still point these out when others are facing them.
It's only hypocritical if you condemn it in another country but condone it in your own, like France disliking ME countries forcing women to dress in headscarves but themselves force women to dress in more revealing clothes under the banner of freedom and choice.

btw

imo the way the chinese are dealing with muslims in the western provinces in china is dead right too

the pussified liberal elite in the west will end up giving away our culture, society, way of life, wealth and relative stability to these backward imbeciles

it is they who should adapt and adjust to our culture, not the other way around

and in the west....women dont cover themselves up from head to facking toe in garbs
