Chelsea narrative

Ok - firstly, great result for Chelsea tonight. Caught the last 10 mins.

Now, this isn’t an article having a dig at the club per se - but BT were quick to praise the club for having 5 academy players in the team tonight. Generally speaking, the media have been quite quick to laud the club for playing youth, and I’ve even heard the term Lampards Lambs".

Now, the young players - Mount, CHO, Abraham etc... are clearly talented.

But, here’s my problem with the narrative:

They have spent over 15 years splurging money left right and centre. As well as they were doing pre take over, they got catapulted to another level, and really kick started the era of super-funded clubs - and did all this at the expense of youth. I think up until recently, Terry was the last youth product to make any impact. They harvested young players like commodities, and the loan rules even needed to be changed to curtail this. Chelsea didn’t give two hoots for a decade and a half for young academy produced players.

Then, their hands are physically tied. Lampard has literally no choice but to play these players - and Lo and behold, they perform.

Surely the club should not be getting this level of praise - and the current success of the young players should used to hold the club to account for how they operated for 15 years.

Don’t get me wrong - they spent money, and got success. No real qualms from me. But they then f@@ck up, get a transfer ban, physically have to play players who they didn’t give a cr@@p about before, and now the media are creaming all over them - doesn’t add up.

I agree with the OP that chelsea deserve no credit but Lampard does.

I’m just buzzing after a poor start (1 win in 6) and a lot of draws especially at home we’ve now won 6 on the bounce, up to 3rd in the PL & beaten Ajax & Lille away! Signs are good whether youth was forced or not, albeit ill make Azpi our best player tonight haha, last 415 games we have played all comps he has been available 413 of them and played 365 of them. Absolutely insane stat

Can’t stand Azpi. Undeniably a very good player. He’s just one of those I can’t stand. Great servant for your club though

Yeah spurs fans must be gutted that they are on their way down currently after what they would. Dram. As a. Successful period without any actual success. To watch a team like Chelsea who like sidey said have fallen and got back up to win things time and time again

And even now looking like we are about to be on to something huge

Poor little spurs bless em.

A majority of youth players only break into a team thanks to injuries, suspensions or rotations.

All credit to Chelsea for having a gifted generation of youngsters ready to seize their opportunity with both hands.

Bit ironic after the abuse and racism directed at Sol Campbell from a lot of Spurs fans for landing a job

Well the OP posted a genuine article about the Chelsea policy and wasn’t even having a dig at the club. Instead of answering it properly you had to go and get all triggered and post some stupid response

That’s why I posted my (equally ridiculous) comment

Oh and yes we have our fair share of cretins and dare I say it racists as well, (or just those who have done racist stuff) , just not quite as many as you

You just sound bitter tbh OP. We played cho and rlc once they were injury free, for the second half of the season. We have also been playing Christensen for a couple years too.
The club has changed their direction, the transfer ban has assisted this in a weird way but we were implementing more youth players over the last couple years and have changed our spending too being near enough in a positive with net spend over the last few years.
