Leicester v Burton Pre-Match Bants

Well it seems that the master of the dungeon has beat me to it but, as I’d already written this, I thought I’d publish anyway.

There isn’t much to say really about Burton Albion. It’s a team not a million miles away from me and I have friends who have season tickets so I’ve followed their progress a little. We also seem to be playing them much more often than we once did as they climbed up the table into the Championship and we have drawn them in the cup a few times.

So what are the thoughts for the Lloyd Dyer derby? Well most of mine might be an echo from another thread somewhere.

We have happened upon a pretty decent squad of players. In some areas it’s arguably better than the 2015/16 PL title winning team, although that team was probably greater than the sum of its parts. So we’re in an era where we have better players than some of us have seen in our lifetime as Leicester City supporters.

In the O’Neill era we capitalised on having a great set of players by winning two league cups. In this era we can already claim a league title (although that season was less of an era and more of a one off). So how do we make sure we achieve things whilst we have a bit of a chance? There are other teams who have had a great group of players, but failed to win trophies: Newcastle under Keegan, Spurs (cough) right now ….

So how do we balance that aspiration to do well in the league - and grow as a club - with winning cups? Ultimately you’re remembered for winning trophies and not finishing fourth, but player retention is probably driven by demonstrating you can qualify for the big competitions in Europe. Do we now have a squad to do both? Would this team really be seriously weaker than the first team?

Ward
Justin, Morgan, Soyuncu, Fuchs
Choudhury, Praet
Gray, Barnes, Abrighton
Perez

You can answer that question on DM’s thread.

It might be an opportunity to try other things like Perez as a forward to test our resilience if something happens to Vardy.

As I said – don’t bother commenting as DM has already written an article and this one was too slow out of the edit box. I won’t be offended as I’m not known for being petty – but please look forward to my next Pre-match thread and my Player Ratings thread on November 9th.

I would also like to declare that I am not petty in the slightest. Neither am I blowing raspberries or flipping the bird at the screen with a big smirk on my face.

I had to re read that Dunge....... As I read I am not pretty!
Both seem relevant I suppose?

I’ve never seen Dunge in the flesh but, you’re right, I don’t envisage him as being pretty. It’s probably an absence of natural sunlight that makes him pale and wan.

Unlike someone in the Florida sunshine I suspect.

Now Joby I do not know if I am right?
Dunge may be a modern day Cary Grant per say?

90' today here by the way........

I’m now picturing Dunge as George Clooney in a smock dangling some keys muttering “I do the pre-match posts now” before laughing wickedly and making himself a celebratory coffee.

Yes I think that’s it. Have you noticed that these boards get quieter and quieter? I think Dunge is gradually taking over and locking all dissenters away.

Only this morning a cry of: “let me out you moron!” was heard emanating from a basement in Dungeon towers.

None of you are wrong.

😂😂

I definitely gets quieter when things go well. I guess there’s less to debate for one, as it’s hard to argue about winning decent football.

But there is definitely merit in your Dungeon conspiracy. Johngee has been down there for years complaining that Pearson is going to ruin our club and we’re going to be playing non league football under his plan.

He thinks his new club Derby has been taken to Premiership glory under the greatest manager ever Paul Clement.

I still have charred remains of JohnGee’s season ticket that I occasionally slip into his daily gruel.

My volume of posts on these boards tends to fluctuate with my own mental health issues rather than anything else.
